I'd say that not much is known about Abyssal but that would be a flat out lie. And what would I benefit from that? He rules over the abyss. Murky water as far as thee eye can see. No one comes back alive from the abyss, much like the void. One thing that differentiates him from the void ruler, was that he is mostly bound to the abyss. When Abyssal was just a youngling, he ventured out just out of his parents' grasps. The ocean beckoned to him, millions of voices inviting him to the warm water. What he saw was not the truth. Seeing what appeared to be millions of vibrant stars in the water he gently lowered himself in to the vast "ocean". The illusion was quickly shattered when he no longer saw stars, but he saw the water for what it truly was.

He screamed out. He was getting dragged down by what had to be thousands of hands, their grips piercing. Abyssal was sinking fast, and the water, if it could even be called that, was entering his lungs. He could no longer see the surface, but he did see rays of the rising sun just barely passing through the mix of slime and water. He could faintly hear his parents crying out for him. This could not be the end for him. He would not succumb to the ocean. But alas, no matter how much he fought, those hands wouldn't be shaken. He was at the bottom now. The sun was piercing through only faintly, he felt like passing out. But he heard faint wispy voices, although he could not exactly make out what he was hearing at first.

"TAKEITTAKEITTAKEITTAKEITTAKEITTAKEIT"

He had no time to process what he had just heard, for all he felt was tearing from the inside out, the voices still screaming, he tried as hard as he could to focus on them but he was distracted by the pain. He cried out, but nothing came out. It was a miracle he was even conscious, or perhaps a divine punishment. He opened his eyes, and saw multiple wispy hands entering him. He felt them wriggling around. He saw some of his innards be thrown out, now it was not only a miracle he was conscious, but that he was still alive. Some hands entered through his maw, some through the hole in his abdomen. He had no energy to physically fight back, all he could do was pray he died soon.

He felt himself slip away, he was becoming one with the hive-mind. His thoughts were being replaced with those of which were not his own. He had come to the conclusion that he might not die, but become one with the ocean. He refused those thoughts, and fought back as mentally hard as he could. He still felt those thoughts prying at his sanity, but he felt their grasp on his mind slip.

The voices stopped abruptly. The ocean fell silent, even though it was already silent. But this was different. He felt his gaping wound heal up, and he felt something growing-- or more, sprouting, from the sides of his heads. He tried to will his arms to move to investigate what the hell was on his head but he was limp. Why was he not dead? Why was he not unconscious? He felt himself breathe, though. Breathe? Underwater? He concluded that what he felt growing were gills. He didn't move for another few days. He didn't sleep, he simply existed for those days.

Hours passed, those hours turned in to days, weeks, then months, and then years.

He had truly become one with the ocean. What was once a vibrant, joyous young dragon, had now turned in to a malevolent being. His spark had died long ago, and he had long since given up in trying to escape. He learned the ways of the ocean. As much as he might've tried to refuse the abyss' influence, he was still oh so slightly influenced by the abyss. He had learned to make the best of his situation. He quite enjoyed his new life, he spent his days trying to lure clueless dragons in to his domain. He controlled every inch of his seemingly endless home. He knew everything that happened. He had eyes everywhere and his ethereal hands did his bidding. Nothing comes out alive from the abyss.

The ocean is alive.

Although, now that he had great power, he was forever bound to the vast ocean. He grew gills, therefore he also grew the required organs to sustain his gills. He could no longer live on land. He hasn't felt the sun in ages, for the sun no longer fell on his kingdom. He would crumble to dust quickly if he were to return to the surface, his skin and scales having grown a slimy coat. But even if he were able to rejoin "society"-- or what was left of it, the ocean would drag him back. He wouldn't even dare consider going back to the mundane life. If it was the hive-mind influencing his train of thought, or if he truly thought that of his own coalition, he would never know.

But that never means he couldn't ever swim to the surface, sometimes he enjoyed going to the edges of the ocean and observing the wild life for a little bit. He couldn't stay up for too long, but he could just quickly go back down in to the water and then come back up. He felt something other than malice when observing little bunnies hopping around. Joy? Excitement? Naive curiosity? He didn't know, they had all become foreign emotions.

Some days though, when he was extra bored, he would swim to a place other than his little bunny observing spot. He ended up in a place where the sun definitely didn't shine, the only thing illuminating the area were bioluminescent fungi, the glow leaking slightly in to his ocean. There were no bunnies, but there were dragons there, sometimes. Often times he hid and watched the dragons go about their lives, it looked like the area branched off but he could see a camp fire and some supplies. Sometimes though, there was a gathering of dragons. They all looked different, he concluded it was a camp of sorts.

One day, though, when he was observing one dragon do their thing-- it was a dragon of many colors, mostly of blues and dark purples- he was spotted. He hadn't interacted with something other than the hive mind for years, decades even. The dragon simply dropped the piece of metal it was mending, and he approached Abyssal. It was only him and Abyssal now.

Now, the hive mind instructed Abyssal to flee, and he wanted to run away, lest he wanted conflict. He was not in the ocean, and Abyssal could not hurt him. The dragon was eloquent, he gave off an intense but calculated aura. He spoke. "Hello. Who are you?". He didn't appear to be angry, or a threat, the hive mind got louder. He couldn't hear his own thoughts for the most part. He tried to speak, and it came out as a garbled mess of sounds. He coughed up an ethereal wispy hand. The hand went straight back in to the water. "Oh. I know who you are. For the sake of introductions, I am Mevyt, I take you do not know who exactly I am?" Abyssal quickly shook his head. "Much like you, I am the ruler of a vast land, where not many reside peacefully. I am the ruler of the void." Oh. That made sense. Abyssal tried to speak. "H...Ho- How d..do you.. k..kn-kn...know.. wh..who I-I a..am?" He managed to cough out. As he spoke, he was able to make his speaking more coherent. He hadn't needed to speak in years, he was unsure if he even could. As he spoke, wispy voices spoke, but Mevyt was unable to make out what he was hearing. Abyssal's voice was slightly distorted.

The voidruler chuckled. "I see it is as bad as they say. Get comfortable. You have much to catch up on, my dear Abb."

...

After a few hours of talking, Abyssal had learned the extent of the collapse of the "society", the god currently trying to take over the world, and pretty much everything else. He had to admit, he really liked Mevyt. He'd never say it though. He was something else. He made him feel something else. He was more than just a sentient sack of meat. Mevyt extended an invite to his clan-- or more, his rebellion. Abyssal had nothing to gain, and nothing to lose, so he joined. Even if he couldn't leave his murky domain , it wouldn't hurt to be a +1 in numbers, right? Mevyt had to depart for unknown reasons, and he bid farewell. Abyssal returned to his ocean's floor, and the hive mind had much to say about his "disobedience".
