Personality
Madalger wanders the Scarred Wasteland, dodging the Wardens of the Rotrock Rim, seeking new Wraiths and Ghouls. He then leads them through the Wasteland, to the council seat of the Ghouls, where they may find purpose.

Long years spent at this task have made him canny, and often harsh. The memories of his Trials have long since faded, along with the scars, and he lacks sympathy for the plight of the Ghouls and Wraiths he escorts. He has even less sympathy for those who had managed to pass their Trials, or at least in such a way to carve out a place in Necromancer society. Any other dragons barely warrant his attention.

He can be callous, even cruel, and his humor biting. Madalger seems to hold little to no respect for other dragons, even those who run the council he serves. His attitude is tolerated - barely - for while he lacks respect, he more than makes up for it in his capability and willingness to help where he can.

In truth, he has seen too much, and lived too harsh a life. Ghouls do not have a long lifespan, unless they can be Neutralized. Wraiths come and go, with most who come to the Ghoul Council seeming to want to assuage their bitter failures. Retirement, or even a vacation, may tempt him, but really, what would he even do, if not this?

Mate
Comfort comes in the form of Cathartes, a Wraith fresh from his Trials. He's become quite infatuated with him in, and in a short time. Whether this means it will burn itself out or is simply the start of something more substantial, Madalger doesn't know - though he hopes for the latter. For now, he'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Masks
A symbol of disguise, becoming, guidance, possession, transformation, and legitimacy. Necromancers bearing masks see themselves as instruments of the Plaguebringer and the hand that enacts Her will. They are counselors to their clans, ensuring that every important decision is in accordance with Plaguebringer's desires. In some cases these Necromancers are shadow rulers, controlling the clan in secret through a figurehead.
Brown Daredevil Cover
Bones
A symbol of death, truth, enlightenment, austerity, and divination. Necromancers bearing bones often serve as shamans to their clans. They foretell the tides of dominance, dates of future plague outbreaks, and can interpret the will of the Plaguebringer through signs and omens.
Skeletal Chimes
Jewels & Jewelry
A symbol of privilege, divinity, blessing, and right to rule. Necromancers bearing jewelry are often the most accomplished of the Necromancers and leaders among their own kind. A Necromancer who takes jewels or jewelry as their symbol will be under intense scrutiny from the larger Necromantic community and must have the skills or arrogance to carry it off. Jewelry symbology is also conflated with color and gemstone symbology.

Dark Sclera
A dragon's eyes are a symbol of their elemental magic, so it is jarring indeed to see that holy color surrounded by the blackness of the Shade. If a Necromancer, Necroservus, or Wraith develop Dark Sclera during their Trials it is often whispered that they entered into a heretical alliance with the Shade to save themselves and succeed. A Ghoul is twice-damned, the Dark Sclera pointed to as both the reason for their failure and Mother's judgement of their betrayal. However, a dragon so benighted gains the ability to see disease and infection, both the location in the body as well as its virility. It's a tempting gift to any Necromancer, so when one of long-standing suddenly develops a darkened gaze it brings with it inevitable suspicion, and 'Lich' might be whispered behind the dragon's back. History
He was told his egg had formed from the concentrated flow of Plague magics. He was told it had been incubated by the Plaguebringer's entourage itself, and delivered to his clan ready to hatch. He was told he had a marked destiny and would achieve greatness.

He was lied to.

Madalger's egg had been brought by a Beastclan caravan to a quarantine zone to buy safe passage and supplies. From there, he was given over to the presiding Necromancer, who chose to raise him as her own. She intended him to undergo the Trials and return to be her protege. In the hopes it would better prepare him, she spun the fantastical tales of his destiny.

He was just half-grown when the ambassador from the Nature Flight came to their quarantine zone to reside. Madalger was, of course, forbidden from getting to close to her, and so he watched from afar. He saw the first explosion of Nature magic, and it's sheer destructive force. It was he who raced to the Necromancer who raised him, so she could do something about it.

The Necromancer fought against the effects of the First Seed, calling upon all the power at her disposal. The effort killed her, and made little difference.

Madalger mourned the dragon who raised him, and the destruction of the place he called home. Like many others, he left rather than try to rebuild. After all, he still had a destiny to fulfill.

He made it to the Wyrmwound, where he dedicated himself to the Plaguebringer's service, accepting the Plague that would wrack his body, mind, and soul. The Trials last twenty-three days, in three stages. It took no time at all for Madalger to be infected with the plague, but that seems to be where things went awry.

He has little memory of his Trials - the fever and sickness took made those weeks a blur. What little he does remember are half-formed impressions of fever-induced hallucinations. It was obvious he would not pass the second Trial - that of mastering the disease.

Rather than become a Ghoul, he became something else entirely. Madalger cannot say how he came to end his Trials as a Wraith - if it was the intervention of a Necromancer or some other force. However, he does remember the feeling that everything had been a lie. After all, what great destiny could a Wraith possess?

He fled the Wyrmwound, seeking solace in the Scarred Wasteland. Madalger found himself lost in the Abiding Boneyard, where he wandered for a time out of mind. He did not count the days, or the nights, or the meals he ate and didn't eat. All he knows is that some time later, he met with an aged Ghoul who gave him something like purpose.

The Necromancer who raised him had named him "Madalger" - a name that he was told meant "council spear" and was to refer to his service to the Necromantic Council. The Ghoul instead made him the offer to be the spear for a different council entirely, one that did not condemn Ghouls and Wraiths for their failure, or seek to use them as experiments. One that, instead, spoke for them.

Madalger agreed. After all, what had he left to lose?
