So nicknamed by her siblings due to her contrary nature, Misery finds nearly everything disagreeable. On a sunny day, the sand is too hot for her paws, or the glare off the ocean too much for her delicate eyes. And of course, on cloudy days, she complains of the damp chill and remains huddled in her cave, refusing to step foot outside. The one exception that never fails to snap her out of her usual sullen mood is oysters. Although they may simply be a food item to every other dragon under the sun, to Misery, they are the pinnacle of all living creatures on the planet.

After leaving her rocky island birthplace and moving in with her siblings on the mainland, Misery immediately set about finding the nearest oyster beds. Luckily, the little bivalves were a mere mile from the coastal cave that she and her siblings called home. Every morning, Misery would rise from slumber and trudge down to the beds, complaining under her breath all the while. But during the day, she would tend to the beds with all the love and care of a mother tending to her hatchlings. Under her careful watch, few other sea-going predators dared to steal from her secret cache, and those that did became the appetizer before her dinner.

Although Misery is quite selfish, she does share her shellfish with her siblings, who joke that that’s the only reason they keep her around.
