Quote:
Basalt is a soft, warm, yet skittish dragon. She loves to tell a good story, and loves helping her "mother" tend to hatchlings and newborns of all sorts.
Despite calling her such, Basalt knows that Mantodea isn't her biological mother. The memories are a bit fuzzy, but she remembers her birth parents.
She remembers the deep love her father shamelessly showed to her mother, how he always seemed to be napping, and how he was always happy to let her cuddle up to him and join
She remembers how loving and warm her mother was, feeling her gentle and caring gaze as she watched over her, and how beautiful she thought her to be
And she remembers being swept away
Living in the Tidelord's domain could be dangerous, as any place in the world can be. She didn't think she wandered that far from her parent's ever watchful gaze. She didn't think the water so deep or current too strong. Yet by the time she realized her danger, it was too late. She remembered crying out, trying with all her might to swim, but she was too young, too weak, barely old enough to forage on her own, there was no way she could pull herself out. Yet she was also swept away to quick for them to catch her. She was pulled away and deep under the unforgiving waters
She remembers trying to reorient herself, desperately trying to stop the endless spinning and thrashing at the mercy of the unforgiving current. Soon enough, she was spat free, floating out near lifelessly. She was tired, and felt ill. Her body ached and her head spun. Most adults would have a hard time in such a situation, and she was still so young. So young, she didn't even know the dangers of one of her kind being pulled into the grasp of a pair of webbed, clawed hands
The maren surprisingly though, gently cradled the hatchling to his chest, carrying her to safety
Her next memory was waking up on the shores of the Viridian Labyrinth, and being gently scruffed and carried away by the motherly Mantodea
From that point on, she was nursed back to health and raised by the kind female, along side her adopted sibling, Sugar. She may be...very very odd. But she was kind and loving, and both dragons see her as a mother, and wouldn't trade her for the world
Just don't ever ask her to fish...or go near any body of water for that matter.
Basalt was very surprised to one day find herself being watched from a far. A maren had swam himself up the rivers and water ways of the Labyrinth, and had been watching the hatchling since. She is horrified of the water now....but feels safe enough around him to get near, and even in it a little. If Mantodea is her mother figure, then Torrent is like a father
