Atropos

resentful | impatient | blunt

apothecary

0zREbwl.png

"Do not chastise me, young one. I have wielded death since I was a hatchling, and it is only through years of study and practice that I now wield life alongside it. The Nature flight speaks highly of their plants, how beautiful and deadly their jungles are, how violent its unending growth is towards the rot and decay of Plague. They would all too willingly forget their inevitable demise; how easily the fungi make their homes on fallen tree stumps, how fleeting life is in the face of death. Nature and Plague are sisters for a reason, young one: neither can exist without the other to feed her."

Atropos' philosophy on life is one that most dragons would find rather grim: the cycle of life and death must be upheld, even if that means losing all that you hold dear. It is for this reason that only the most desperate dragons seek out her expertise for healing, as if they would visit her apothecary any sooner, she would just as soon send them back out and tell them to "let the cycle sort itself out". For those with darker aims, however, Atropos is almost too eager to part with her more unsavory concoctions - poisons in all forms, salts to ensure a failed harvest, tinctures to ruin one's scales or feathers. Even the precious few vials of distilled darkness that would drain a dragon of their elemental magic entirely are more likely to leave her shelves than the Onyx Cobra antivenom that cures gembond poisoning. Some dragons blame this on Atropos' lineage, and perhaps there may be some truth to this - after all, death tends to follow Plague dragons wherever they go, intentionally or not. Others, however, believe in a darker theory: Atropos was Shade-Touched in her youth ("her eyes are too dark, more black than red"), and the survivalist philosophy of her birth flight has been warped into something far more sinister. For her part, Atropos rarely speaks of her past, and seems content to let the truth remain buried.
