Biography

Grove Fern Born to a well-do-do family of the Sunbeam Ruins, Lillet didn't know what to do with her life. She'd never known want, but she also felt no direction, no real motivation. Should she continue with her studies after school and become a researcher? (But of what?) Should she pursue a trade, like her twin sister Comfrey? (But what kind of trade?) Or should she just stay and try to find some place, some purpose in her clan's home? No real answer ever came to her. But one day Melani, on a very rare trip away from Twilight's Vale, came across her as she sat gazing wistfully out over the sea. Melani had come to the Ruins to attend a metaphysical conference and was due to give a talk on her beliefs at the request of the philosopher who had invited her. Feeling overwhelmed and out of her depth among the scholars, Melani started talking to Lillet, first as a distraction, but after a while she began speaking of her drift and their way of living, and it helped her to center her thoughts and regain her calm and conviction. Lillet listened in wonder, and when Melani finished speaking at last, she asked the question that she'd been struggling with: "How do you know what to do?"

Melani leaned toward her, gazing deep into her eyes. "It's not about what to do," Melani said. "It's about how to be" And Lillet wasn't sure she really understood, but it struck a sudden note of longing within her. So when Melani finished her talk and returned to the Starwood Strand, Lillet went too, hoping to find herself at last.
