"I'll give you my half life so you'll see tomorrow"
__Ryoku grew up in a tempestuous home, with a father who abused his power and a mother who tried everything in her power to protect her children. In turn, Ryoku did all he could to protect his younger sister, Kagura. When he was but a young teen, his father, Sangeki, attempted to create a war between the kitsune of the hamlet and the humans of a nearby town. In the midst of the confusing fight that followed, and with a young Itazura's help, Ryoku was able to seal away his father into a dusty old oni mask that he then tossed in the nearby river.

__With his father gone, Ryoku took on the role of acting Chief of the hamlet. Although the kitsune were then averse to humans and thus wanted Itazura's removal, Ryoku allowed him to stay due to Kagura's begging, under 2 conditions: 1) he be Kagura's bodyguard from that point forward; 2) he wear a mask to hide his humanity from the hamlet for the rest of time.

__Ryoku is a tired man, constantly drowning in work and stress regarding the hamlet and its well being. His relationship with his younger sister, Kagura, is strained due to his inactions regarding the hamlet's treatment of her childhood friend. Although he does his best to serve the kitsune and his family, he never feels that it is enough to keep them all happy.
