FORMER TRAVELLING DRAGON: NOW RETIRED!

Uh-oh, looks like this little traveller wandered a little too far from her home lair (bruwuno5ds, #454027), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to her home lair, to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here, or to the hub if you don't want another dragon in return. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

Biography:

Ever since she was born, her plainness has stood out like a sore thumb. Determined to see the world and prosper before she begins to serve a divine deity, she sets off from her home.

Her birth name given by her mother, Stella, is very dear to her, but her insecurities swallow her. She finds she does not want to be known as Stella, a plain young dragon. She wants to be known as a wanderer.

Travel Log:

ZippoFeuer: So Nomad wandered, barely past the first few isles of Arcane when she was plucked up by a most curious fellow, Lakendra. What to make of this trickster? They purred happily, snatching her up in their claws, surprising Nomad with the suddenness of it.

"Let go of me!" She yelped, thrashing about in the shadow-drake's talons.

"Oh, but pray tell me why?" Had been the response, as they flew up and up, to dizzying, dazzling heights.

"Just- let me go!"

"Dear me, seems this scamp is set on being released- and when all I were a-doin were to be plucking the plucky lass up to carry her in a forwardly direction." ... What?? They released their quarry, only to giggle and titter at the squeaking cry as the hatchling held tight to their leg. "And now I be the one captured by the little hunter, eh?"

"Can you put me down on the ground?!"

"Picky picky! But certainly I can, it's more a question if if I will!"

"Please?!"

"Aye, alright," they nodded, drifting back down to the earth. "But be careful while ye explore, mm? Yer only a wee childling, what're ye doing out and about like this?"

"I'm going to explore the world," she nodded sharply, still digging her tiny hatchling nails into his leg, "so that even though I'm plain, I'll still get a chance to see something before I work for one of the eleven."

"Plain, lass?"

She nodded again, this time more subdued. "I've heard that most dragons with plain hides are destined to serve under the eleven."

"Ah, don't let that bother you, eh? You're gonna see everything under the sun, 'n ye'll go back to yer family to tell them all about it." Closer to the ground, landing with a soft gust of wind, he shook himself free of the hatchling. "Ye've got provisions for the trip, a'course?"

"I have these lucky stars my mom gave me," she held them out, startled when Lakendra reached down and nipped one out of her hand. "Hey!"

"Oh, those'll do quite nicely, for sure."

"Well now I have one fewer!"

"I'll give you something else to fill ye then!" they gestured vaguely, pulling out a handful of marigolds from in their cape. "Ah. Here ye go! Now best of luck little traveller, hmm?"

And with that, she was left on the border of Arcane, to find some way across the continent.

Volrin: It took a lot of effort and even more disaster for Nomad to reach her next destination -- firstly, she was able to hitch a ride with a nicer, slightly less chaotic dragon, a traveller such as herself. They took her to Wind territory, where she got billowed about by huge, gale-like winds and thrown into the riptides of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. A friendly Guardian found Nomad and rescued her from the surging waters, and sensing that she was a bit more of a land dragon, helped her reach the Light continent.

This all happened over the course of a few days, and Nomad came out of it dizzy, slightly bruised, and more than a little disgruntled. Against all odds, she had managed to hang onto her bundle of food during the tumultuous journey, and she started by snacking on the last of her marigolds and lucky stars.

Nomad spent much of the morning poking around the Light Flight's ruins, chatting with the local archaeologists but finding herself wholly bored by the place. Maybe she would like it more when she got a bit older? For now though, listening to dragons ramble on about crumbling pillars, empty temples, and some dead old people that had called this place home centuries ago was not her style. She wanted some adventure!

A little more wandering about led Nomad to discover an alchemist's hovel, built pretty far away from the local clans and ruins. The little Pearlcatcher was delighted to find a wide, gushy mud puddle just beside the hovel, and though it smelled faintly of chemicals, she was pretty unperturbed -- mud is mud, right?

Nomad constructed a cute little bed out of twigs and leaves, and placed her precious pearl there for safekeeping; it was her greatest treasure, and she didn't want it getting mucky, after all. Then she bounded over and dove headfirst into the puddle, splashing foul-smelling mud all over! She stomped and romped around for quite a while, staining the side of the hovel and making a frankly terrible mess. Nomad was only interrupted from her playing when she looked over to the nest and realized, with a sinking fear in her gut, that her pearl was gone.

"Waaah!!" The Pearlcatcher cried out, running over to her construct and pulling it apart, looking desperately for the pearl. There wasn't a sign of it anywhere. Nomad's eyes darted around frantically until finally, they settled on a large, snake-like figure scampering off in the distance, hugging a large orb to its chest. Was that... an Imperial hatchling? And was that her pearl?!

Nomad grit her teeth furiously, and bounded off after the Imperial bandit without a second thought. A strange tingling sensation was creeping up across her scales, a side effect of the chemically-tainted mud that was now changing the patterns on her wings, but Nomad paid little attention to it through her mounding panic. She chased that thieving little snake all the way into a new lair!

Gene Added: Morph

CelesticLeo: Nomad followed the pink Imperial everywhere she went, lingering just a few steps behind and hoping to eventually catch up to her. The first mistake that little criminal made would get Nomad her pearl back! Traveling behind the clueless dragon, the Pearlcatcher suddenly realized they were heading into a dark forest.

"This must be the Shadowbinder's domain..." Nomad thought to herself.

The Shadow region is a very tricky area to be in. A dragon can lose sight of time, of what is illusion and what is really even there. There are plenty of dragons always playing tricks! Lost in thought, she didn't realize the Imperial crook had taken a moment to snack on some strangely-colored mushrooms, and was now out cold. Could this be her chance to get her pearl back?

Just as swiftly as the Imperial had stolen her pearl, Nomad had taken it back!

KingVulture: Nomad first arrived at Crow Callers after following the Imperial there. They confronted each other, but quickly realized that it wasn't worth continuing to argue. They made amends rather fast, and learned each others' names - the Imperial's name was Strawberry.

Nomad even made a few other friends, including Jules, a former travelling dragon. Strawberry and Nomad finally decided to go their separate ways, but maybe they'd meet up some other time.

Volrin: Now an adult, Nomad found herself visiting the Sunbeam Ruins once again, after a short respite in a travellers' hub. While the ruins and archaeologists may have thoroughly bored her as a hatchling, she felt almost drawn to the place nowadays. She wasn't quite ready to end her travels just yet, but should she find herself in the area again, she would definitely try to find a clan willing to house her permanently. Ancient history seemed to be a subject that was up her alley after all.

Since her last visit to the Sunbeam Ruins as a child, Nomad had been occasionally struggling with frustratingly itchy scales. No amount of scratching or bathing would make the irritation go away, it only seemed to fade away on its own at random. It had started in the leather of her wings, but now it was spreading down to her torso too, especially in the wide, blocky scales covering her underbelly. After a short afternoon nap, Nomad found out the reason -- the chemically-tainted mud she had rolled around in ages ago was still continuing to affect her body, and now the Pearlcatcher had a bright purple underbelly and snake-like markings on her body to match her wings!

The patterns looked lovely on her, and Nomad swelled with pride at her new, unique appearance. She wasn't such a plain young dragon anymore! That being said... the fact that one mud bath was STILL changing her appearance and affecting her body was concerning. Hopefully it wouldn't do anything else to her from here on out.

Genes Added: Python and Underbelly

bruwuno5ds: After a long while of flight, Nomad landed in a quiet outpost in the Stardust Isles. It was quiet, and some part of Nomad felt that the place was familiar, or homely.

The camp was mostly silent. The only thing she could hear was a calming breeze.

She was barely two steps in, however, when a creature bumps into her. "Aack, sorry," it says, and then, it squints its eyes at her. "Hey, you look kind of familiar."

Hm. She wondered if she'd been here before, but she couldn't seem to recall.

Another voice called out from further inside the camp. "Hey, do you need any hel-" It stopped, and a large purple dragon was suddenly staring at Nomad from across the clearing.

They stare at each other for a second. "Hey," the other dragon yells, "You're Octavius' kid, aren't you?"

There's a horrifyingly empty second as Nomad scrambles to place the name. And, when she does, she finally remembers where she is.

It's fun catching up with everybody again. She hasn't seen her father since she was a child, and evidently he had been on his own adventures as well. She had a sister now, who had reportedly been planning to travel to look for her. She feels a bit sheepish now that she's ruined her sister's chance for adventure, but Umbral, while still looking to be a bit disgruntled about the situation, claimed that she didn't intend to let Nomad's arrival dissuade her from her plans. She then turned away and didn't speak to Nomad again. When she left, Nomad realized she'd left behind a small and rather pretty stone. She interprets it as an olive branch, or maybe forgiveness.

Her father leaves her home lair again before her. He never really had much to do in the peaceful outposts, Nomad supposes, and watches him leave with an indescripable feeling.

It's going to be her time to leave soon, too. She can't stay here forever. Despite still calling it her 'home lair', it barely feels like home. The place that felt like home was...

She thinks of crumbling ruins and rays of sun in her eyes. She thinks of years and years of beautiful history that she may contribute to someday.

It's a bit enthralling, but more than that, it feels like home.

She resolves to leave. She doesn't know what exactly to give to her sister, or even say, as Umbral has been staunchly avoiding her. Well, maybe she doesn't need to leave anything at all.

She takes off at dawn one day. She doesn't know if she'll ever return, but she'll never forget the little outpost in the Stardust Isles.

Volrin: Nomad has been spending the rest of her days comfortable in the Sunbeam Ruins. She found a home in The Purified Temple, a clan that was happy to have her as a permanent resident. Nowadays, she works with the domain's other acolytes, studying the ancient ruins of the land with great passion. And she ended up falling for a daredevil, as well...

Maybe if she has some pretty new genes, she won't be so worried about going to serve one of The Eleven?
