An old member of the Sanctuary, Dalu has always been the eclectic sort. He wasn't cast out from his home flight of arcane towers, instead his curiosity simply got the better of him and he decided to set out and see the world.
By far the more approachable scholar in the Sanctum, Dalu's peer Audemus can barely stand to operate in his presence, constantly under a barrage of unrelenting optimism and mind-boggling obliviousness. What's worse is that Dalu is essentially also his son-in-law, so Audemus has to tolerate him for his daughter's sake.

The story goes like this: when his colleague's two children were of apprenticing age, Audemus trusted Dalu to mentor one of his children in the arcane arts, a responsibility the mage was more than happy to take on. He liked Audemus, the old sourpuss. But Oskari was absolutely nothing like their father... which meant he liked the Tundra dragon even more!
Dalu and Oskari got on like a fire nest... on... fire. Both were energetic and eclectic and had such vibrant personalities it clearly made Audemus want to shield his eyes. Or go into hibernation. The pure chaotic energy the two pinkish dragons brought to the arcane laboratory was nigh unbearable. Of course the magister knew that it was a terrible decision to have Oskari study under Dalu from the get-go, for his own sanity. But... it was what Oskari wanted. Dalu saw the father had a weak spot for his children a mile long, and it was honestly hilarious... in an endearing grumpy-old-man sort of way.
Years passed with Oskari growing into their own as a scholar and inventor, taking what Dalu and their father taught them and running with it.

And then, at one point, Oskari went out of their way to introduce their sister to Dalu. Dalu immediately fell for Aulus. She was scathingly playful and complimented Dalu's chaos with her own flavor of it. Yes, she's definitely a touch heinous, borderline villainous at times. But in a cute way, according to Dalu. He adores her more than anything in the world.
Outsiders see a pairing no one expected to work as well as it does. Meanwhile, Dalu and Aulus simply see the love of their life.
And Oskari?
Oskari won't admit what it is they thought would work out so well between the two. But the knowing glint in their eye... they knew it was going to work. The reward? Oskari now has three nieces! (And Audemus three granddaughters... oh God.)

Two of the three nieces—Nina and Eurfyl—decided to leave home to seek out their own adventures and to serve the Stormcatcher. Serene remained with her parents, however, and is currently trying to discover what it is she wants to do with her life.
