Biography

Iphigenia
|| Pumpkin || Farmer ||
It's always pumpkin season, right?

eqMmrc7.gif

Autumn was Iphigenia’s favorite time of year. There was something about the crisp bite of the bitter winds blowing from the north that always put a smile on her face, and the bright reds and yellows and oranges spreading through the treetops like wildfire were always a lovely sight to behold. There was something soothing even about the rainy fall days, where the heavy clouds hinted at the oncoming winter, especially when she could settle in with a hot cup of spiced tea and stay quite dry, watching the rain from the safety of the shelter of her market stall. From time to time, she would hear the customers at her market stall complain that autumn was just the beginning of everything turning a monochrome brown as winter seeped in, or that the bitter winds from the north were heralding an even bitterer winter, but even if those things were true, they didn’t bother Iphigenia. Autumn, as far as she was concerned, was the best time of year.

Even aside from the colors of the trees and the delicate frost that sometimes laced the fallen leaves in the early morning, Iphigenia loved autumn for its annual bountiful harvest, when the market was at its busiest. Dragons came from all corners of Sorneith to browse the market stalls, delighting over bushels of bright red apples, the long stalks of summer’s last sunflowers, and--perhaps most of all--Iphigenia’s cartful of pumpkins.

Her pumpkins came in every shape and size, from miniature ones that could fit in a Fae’s talons to pumpkins large enough to house a Guardian (she swore someday she’d grow one large enough for an Imperial to live in, if they chose), and they came in nearly every color of the rainbow--the most important part of the rainbow, anyway, her pumpkins mirroring the fiery oranges and yellows and even reds of the autumn leaves, although she swore she’d managed to grow a pumpkin the color of aubergine one year with just a pinch of magic.

Perhaps using her arcane magic to help her pumpkins grow was cheating just a bit, but none of Iphigenia’s customers ever complained, and half the dragons in the market used some secret trick to make their produce bigger and better than all the rest, so why should she keep herself from using her magical talents to grow the best pumpkins?

When asked if she would ever live inside one of her pumpkins--after all, she boasted that even the largest Guardians and Ridgebacks could live inside one--she would simply smile and wrinkle her nose and shake her head; living in a pumpkin would be awfully sticky, and the scent would cling to her scales forever. She much preferred her pumpkins in pies, served piping hot with a swirl of heavy whipping cream and a dash of cinnamon, enjoyable year round to always bring back the feel of autumn in her soul.
