Biography

Mate to Orca
Apprentice to Maat
Artwork by crimandspace

She hadn't been born in the city, far from it even. The cold where she originated from often left others, both human and dragon, fighting for their lives, and many of her family were just as cold in their mannerisms. Narwhal had grown up fighting for her life, and her parents had left her behind long before she had even become an adolescent. She and her siblings had banded together until that time, but soon it became well known that if they stuck together they would be picked off one by one among the wolves and the other, more feral dragons living in the wastelands of icy waters and snow covered land.

She had never imagined anywhere else, had not known that life was not always filled with fight from the day one rose to the time they went to sleep. She had grown tough in her atmosphere, tougher than most as females were few and far between without being claimed by other males and rounded up as a sort of harem. She managed to avoid this, she never wanted to become such a thing to anyone. But then she had spotted other dragons, colored very differently than the white and blacks of her kind; she had never even known there were others living far from her desolate home!

But among those brightly colored dragons was one like her; scarred and rough as she imagined she looked. She watched them for some days as they trekked further into the wasteland; she dogged their steps, though not maliciously as she was known by others she lived with. She had a reputation for being feral, malicious in her defenses and hunts, and it had been a long while since she had met anyone willing to try and overtake her. But these dragons were curiosities, something she had never seen before and they made her wonder where they had come from.

It wasn't until days after following them she realized there were others as well, closing in on a hunt in their famine. They were the smaller of the dragons wandering around, and they had formed a pack to hunt down these odd visitors. But they had not seen her following them, and when they made their attack Narwhal was quick to leap in and shove them off on their way, deafeated; the male that had her colors seemed to be a bit surprised that she came to their aid, but she quickly backed off with a warning growl to him when he approached.

It was another day before she was approached by a hooded female in the group, offering her some food if she would like to join them. Reluctantly, and on guard, Narwhal agreed but on the condition that she would not be forced to go along with them after she decided to leave. The furred female was taken aback by her request, but soothed her by agreeing. As they approached the rest of the group, she spotted the large male acting as a guard on the other side of the camp, but he turned and watched her carefully before his attention was taken elsewhere. But when the others grouped together for their dinner he approached her slowly, she noticed.

"What do you want?" She asked him gruffly, turning away from the hooded female, Maat she had learned, that had invited her. She watched him study her for a time before answering, his tone equally gruff as her own. "I thank you on behalf of our group. We would not have known we were being stalked had you not intercepted them first. You can come and go from this group as you please as long as we are here." With that said he turned from her and gathered up his own meal, settling away from the group to remain on guard. She guessed he was their muscle, for there weren't any others as large and imposing as he was.

"His name is Orca. He came from here too, which is why we asked him to be our guide. It's been some years since he's been here though, but we trust him to keep us on our path safely." Maat spoke up, smiling as Narwhal watched the similar colored male closely. "We would also welcome you to return with us, should you wish to be free of this place. It certainly is a wasteland, desolate and unlike where we live. Think about it, Narwhal. One so beautiful in soul as you should not remain here to wither." Narwhal blinked slowly as she took in Maat's words, and she offered the older female a small smile in thanks.

"I think I shall join your group on your return home, Maat. This place holds nothing for me, or the others living here. I would like to see your home, learn now that I know this is not the only home for me." Maat smiled from under her cowl, eyes shining as she looked to Orca again; being a Seer she had been glad that her adopted son had come with them, as she had envisioned a love blossoming for him in the form of a Skydancer the same colors as the large Ridegeback. It seemed it was to be true, what with meeting Narwhal.
