Biography

Mate: Poisonheart

Though The Verdant Army prides itself on law and order, you had to have heard of Waru should you meddle in the realm of crime. He is as sly as a Serthis, and many wonder exactly what made Fangdance decide to keep him around, for their bickering is worthy of novels. Some whisper that perhaps the nature of their relationship is what one would describe as "love-hate", despite the opposition his mate Poisonheart is trying to push forward.

Waru was born in the vast jungle of The Shrieking Wilds, into the wealthy Witherspring clan. His parents, Dibden and Penwynne, were among the richest dragons there, even though rumors were that they got most of their spoils by selling their children into exaltation. Waru's childhood was one of privilege and luxury. His parents never gave him much of their time, mostly leaving him to hang about with his Crystalline Gala gift - a Leafy Moth named Cheoroem (Cho-roam) - but they took care of his needs the best they could. Waru had the finest education, the best tutors and teachers and the best coaches should he have wished for anything new to do. Still, their absence from his life made Waru bitter and upset - lashing out at fellow strangers of his academy and frequenting the webwing hunts his clan organised instead of studying. No one was really interested in socializing with the young Pearlcatcher, his only companion being Cheoroem, not the most talkative of insects.

As Waru grew, so did his tendencies for delinquency. Eventually, his clan became so frustrated with his roughhousing that they promptly kicked him out, taking away whatever wealth the Pearlcatcher had on him. Waru obeyed and left, but not before stealing Cheoroem away under the cover of the night. He wandered the realm, soon entering a double life: a poorly beggar during the day and a criminal with quite the record during the night. It was under this guise that The Verdant Army found him and invited him to join their ranks. Though he now knew his true purpose was not of the dignified standing, Waru accepted. The enjoyment of confusing the well-meaning folk and getting away with crime made it all the more thrilling. This would be his best heist yet.

His strategy was hanging about Fangdance, the leader of the Army, in an attempt to gain favor. However, he found himself wrapped in an even more conniving game. Fangdance's brain was not like a dragon's - he knew all of his tricks, and yet fell for something every hatchling would recognize. He disliked Waru for his materialism, and yet allowed his presence to be ever closer, pushing Waru's own buttons better than the Pearlcatcher would expect. Perhaps that chemistry was what sparked the strange rumors around their relationship.

Eventually, he came across a homeless Spiral scientist named Poisonheart. She was so naive, upset and lost that a criminal's sly heart shook for the first time. He knew he had to keep her safe, and so he introduced her to the mysterious Fangdance, who allowed the Spiral to stay. Their affection soon repelled most name-callers. She did not have much treasure, and she was not of higher standing, but what she did have was mesmerizing eyes, the cutest smile and a heart of gold. Soon enough, Waru proposed to her, even if his love was fuelled by the spite for his parents' richness.

Behind the scenes, Waru's heists grew more and more ambitious. He found he excelled at controlling others - he knew how to manipulate a dragon's psyche, he knew how to fight, and most of all - he knew how to deal with treasure. Finally, he was glad that his parents were rich nobles. However, he knew that he could only play his games so long before he would inevitably be caught. He had to go into hiding, puppeteer his targets, and go through the most ambitious heists without leaving a trace. Luckily, he knew just how.

Eventually, his name was well-known in the world. Whenever an outrageous crime occured, everyone knew a certain Pearlcatcher was behind it. Oddly enough, the judges were never quite able to find enough evidence to accuse Waru properly... Besides, with a delightful cute Spiral always pleading them for mercy, how could one resist letting yet another of his crimes slide?

Still, not all of Waru's heists were a success. The only failure happened when the Pearlcatcher and his team attempted to assault a carriage on a transfer road between The Tangled Wood and The Sea of A Thousand Currents, having caught news of the riches inside. However, upon reaching the transfer roads, they found the carriage already disarmed, with a single white Fae on top of the mess.

"So you are here." - the Fae responded coldly. - "Finally. I knew the infamous Waru couldn't miss such a prize. Have everything else. But the egg inside is mine."

Waru knew there was something special about the egg, so he declined. All that came after was a flash of pure white ice magic and the same cold voice.

"The Chaoswing Crew does not forgive. The Chaoswing Crew does not forget."

The Fae ignored the cries of Waru's pained comrades, fleeing upward with the egg. The Pearlcatcher never knew what that meant, but the fear of The Chaoswing Crew stuck with him forever.
