Rion

The Guardian

Originating from the Highland Scrub in The Shifting Expanse, even as a hatchling Rion was known for being serious and mature. Even so it came as something of a surprise that he felt the call of The Search as early as he did. Often being seen searching the sky to the North as if to try and find his charge through sight alone.

Feeling the call of The Search as strongly as he did, just before the onset of his maturity his clan discovered that he had vanished, heading towards The Sea Of A Thousand Currents in an effort to reach his charge as soon as he could.

Given his young age and inexperience it took some time for Rion to cross the sea, though he crossed it with a single-mindedness that might have been put into song had there been any around to witness it.

On reaching The Scarred Wasteland Rion pushed forward, past the tendrils and membranes of The Wandering Contagion and into the arid, deadly wastes of The Abiding Boneyard. The call of The Search pulling him ever deeper into the Plaguebringers lands.

Even with his tireless perserverance, it was several weeks before he finally laid eyes on his charge, though given the circumstances under which Fern was living at the time, it is something of a surprise that it wasn't longer. Despite the then Sips-At-Festering-Wound's warnings, with the same persistance that had seen the young dragon through weeks of difficulty, Rion claimed them as his charge. Something that neither of them took to easily, as Rion quickly became the target of Fern's chaotic and uncontrollable plague affinity.

This affinity lashed out at Rion at every opportunity, leaving deep wounds that quickly became infected. Those that managed to heal would quickly reopen under new onslaughts and those that managed to scar remaining a deep and angry red. Almost like blood. In the face of Rions clear refusal to abandon them and in an attempt to spare Rion the fate of so many of their other former companions, Fern finally began a concerted effort to control their abilities. Rion's precence both a catalyst and an aid to success.

Once Fern had gained some measure of control over their affinity, in an effort to prevent the toxic nature of The Scarred Wasteland from damaging Rion further, the pair began to move north towards Dragonhome. Hoping to finally find a safe place they could call home.

In doing so they managed to wander almost directly into where The Nameless Clan was staying in Greatwyrm's Breach, quickly being brought into the fold by Elderberry, who was horrified by the state of Rion's wounds.

As a member of the clan Rion has taken to being a protector of the main lair. With Fern often acting as a clan healer alongside Elderberry and Hester he sees little need in traveling too far from it. When the clan is attacked he is a vicious defender, his body forged into a dangerous weapon by his journeys in The Scarred Wasteland. As Fern says, "To still fight when your body is rotting away with every step you take, you must be as stubborn as the mountains themselves."
