Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this curious Imp wandered a little too far from her home lair (#288729, winterbright), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

EARLY YEARS
Saga's mother, Eudora, was a folklorist who traveled to the city of Brightwinter to live, in order to record the history of the clan and their beliefs and legends, as well as those who traveled to visit Brightwinter. The clan resided in an ancient fortress-city in the southern icefields, one who had recently deposed a their cursed warlord usurper, and begun to rebuild, and re-form alliances with other dragon clans. In the handful of years since his banishment, they had begun to form a network of researchers, traders and artisans that was opening up the world to them. Likewise, their diplomatic relations with the nearby longnecks and wintermane centaurs had been crucial in their rebellion, and in establishing their initial ties as a new, more open clan. Saga herself grew up in this new age, raised on a steady intellectual diet of the tales of these dragons, and the tomes her mother had recorded containing them. Her father was a researcher of more concrete things such as potions and tinctures, but Saga was true to her namesake, always far more interested in the stuff of legends and the shifting and weaving of inter-clan power dynamics. It was these, more than anything, that shaped her outlook and her goals in life. Dragons came and went from the clan, those her age were rare, and her own siblings were quite different from the girl, less academically minded and more interested in serving the Icewarden. Thus, she had few close ties and, as a result, was not quite used to socializing, nor does she particularly enjoy it. Her icy exterior rarely melts away, except when she can get lost in a conversation about some historical or current event.

Brightwinter had her mother to serve them and write down their stories, but how many histories and tales went untold across Sornieth, the young imperial wondered? She began to practice her mother's craft with an eye toward setting out on her own one day, and while she recorded everything she could from travelers to the clan, she began to formulate a plan to visit these places herself one day, and more besides. Her plan was approved by the clan's new ruler, Glacia, who wished to find allies and gain intelligence on the beastclans, as well as make contact with other dragon clans. Saga's personal long term goal was different - she wanted to author the most comprehensive record of current and past events in Sornieth, as well as the stories told by the dragons across the world - a History of the Clans of Sornieth, and a Compenium of Lore of the Clans of Sornieth, she called them. And so, with a packed bag full of rations and writing materials, she set out across the snowy passes, searching for her first destination.

(Feel free to add an entry below of Saga's visit to your clan! You might mention her travels there, how she was recieved, her impressions of your clan, links to dragons she met, notes she took about their legends or intelligence reports about the clans themselves or nearby beastclans. I think it would be great is she found some allies, friends, enemies, mysteries to investigate (current or past) or even a romantic encounter/hatchlings. You might also send an intelligence report back to her home clan if you'd like?)

Saga's first stop was a clan bordering the Scarred Wasteland and Tangled Wood. She was a little surprised - she heard some stories about how those were some of the most dangerous regions in Sornieth. She feared that she would meet hostile dragons, but she was pleasantly surprised when a small group of dragons welcomed her in and led her to the lodge she'd be staying in.

"Wait, so you're not dangerous?" she asked.

"We can be dangerous if we need to, but we generally don't have to be." one of the dragons answered, a wise-looking Tundra.

"The Crow Callers philosophy is that we're built for survival." another one said, who was a fashionably dressed Wildclaw.

"And acceptance." another added. She was a colorful Spiral.

"She knows what she's talking about - she used to travel Sornieth, just like you're doing right now." a Banescale told her.

"Huh.. I had some negative perceptions of dragons who lived in Plague and Shadow territory, but I guess they're false." Saga said.

"Dragons of any region of Sornieth can be dangerous, you know. Even Ice. I've met shade-touched Gaolers before.. not doing that again!" another Wildclaw told her.

"You know what, you're right." Saga told him.

"You're likely to meet friendly and hostile dragons on your travels. I used to travel, so I'd know." a Ridgeback told her.

"Hey, we haven't even told each other our names yet." another Spiral said.

"Oh, you're right. Well, my name is Saga." Saga told him.

"My name's Joaquin." the Spiral said, then pointed at his colleagues in the order they spoke in - "Their names are Jules, Tobias, CircusTent, BurntCake, Owen, and Jacques."

"Well, it's very nice to meet all of you." Saga said.

When Saga arrived at the Traveller's Lodge, she met a few other dragons who were also travelling Sornieth. There was a Spiral named Isolda, a Tundra named Peridot, and another Imperial named Akura. They spent most of the day sharing stories of the adventures they've had so far, and each of them became close friends. Saga, however, became closest friends with Akura, as the two had the most in common.

"Are you enjoying your travels so far?" Peridot asked.

"I think so." Saga told him.

"Most travellers I know say that it only gets better from here. Of course, you're likely to deal with some.. hardships." Peridot said.

"Really?" Saga asked.

"Yeah, I've been through several, but I'd rather not talk about them." Peridot explained.

"Do any of you have advice for new travellers? Akura and I are just starting out, and we'd like to hear from dragons who have been doing this for a while." Saga asked.

"Finding a goal is nice, even if that goal is just to travel. That seems to be Peri's goal, but I won't hold it against him." Isolda answered.

"Actually, my goal is to be the father of many hatchlings." Peridot corrected.

"Ah, sorry. My goal is to bring peace. I was always told that I'd end the rivalry between Crow Callers and Deer's Death someday." Isolda said.

"That sounds great.. but what's Deer's Death?" Saga asked.

"I was watching the staff of the Traveller's Lodge, including my mother, tell you about how dragons of all regions can be dangerous. Unfortunately, Deer's Death are some of the dangerous ones." Isolda explained.

"I had no idea your mother worked here.. but I'll definitely stay away from Deer's Death." Saga said.

"Yep, her name's CircusTent. Also, good choice." Isolda answered. "I don't know if I really could end the rivalry between them.. I've seen their leader, Mirfak, before. It might've been because I was only a little hatchling at the time, but I find it hard to believe he was once a loving son of the clan's leader's, Naxo and Harper."

"I've heard rumors about Mirfak. He killed his own brother and tried to do the same to his parents, didn't he?" Peridot asked.

"Yep." Isolda answered.

"He sounds terrible." Saga said.

"The worst thing is, he frequently comes to this clan.. I've heard that when the sign of Deer's Death is present, Crow Callers goes into hiding immediately. All hatchlings, all Light/Nature dragons, travelling dragons, and almost everyone except for the clan leaders." Isolda explained.

"That sounds scary!" Saga exclaimed.

"Yeah.. at least it keeps us safe." Isolda pointed out.

"It's nighttime now, I think we should go to bed." Akura told the group, and they nodded. As they exchanged "goodnight"s, they started to get ready for bed. Just before they went to bed, Owen checked on them, giving them a few refreshments.

The next morning, Saga awoke to Akura in front of her, holding a Snapper hatchling.

"She's cute, isn't she?" Akura asked. "I find all hatchlings pretty cute, but Snappers are a favorite of mine."

"I find Snappers in general pretty cute." Isolda responded.

"You're right. Her name's PidgeonsOnEdge, though I typically just call her Pidgeon." Akura said.

"I hope I can work in the Traveller's Lodge when I'm older!" Pidgeon said.

"You can volunteer now, in fact." Owen told her, entering the room. "BurntCake did when she was a hatchling."

The conversation was suddenly interrupted when Naxo and Harper came through the door, as did the rest of the Traveller's Lodge employees.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Owen asked.

"Deer's Death is coming. Lock the doors and keep quiet until we give the all-clear." Naxo told him. "Harper is going on to inform the rest of the clan."

"Oh no." Saga said, already becoming scared.

"It'll be okay." Owen reassured her, locking the doors. "Everyone, follow me."

"What's going on?" Pidgeon asked, confused and startled.

"A group of unfriendly dragons is coming to the clan, but we're going to be okay." Owen explained, going into a small room. The rest of the dragons followed, while watching carefully.

"Stay quiet." Owen told them.

The dragons watched, and Mirfak made his appearance, as did a few other frightening-looking dragons.

"So it wasn't just me being scared as a hatchling. Mirfak really just is scary." Isolda said quietly.

"Pidgeon, I'm sorry you have to witness this." Akura said.

It appeared that Naxo and Harper had a brief conversation with Mirfak, until he and his group flew off. After they watched them fly off, Naxo and Harper went back to the clan.

"Coast is clear." Harper said, and Owen unlocked the door.

"What did Mirfak say?" Saga asked.

"Something about how he thought we let some more travellers into the clan. We told him that we didn't, and he flew off." Harper explained.

"So, he won't be coming back?" Saga asked.

"Hopefully not." Harper answered.

"That's good." Saga said.

Saga decided to spend a few more days in the clan, but eventually decided that it was time for her to find other places to stay. She asked if her new travelling friends wanted to join her - Akura accepted, but Isolda and Peridot had to politely decline since they were both taking care of nests.

"Bye!" Saga said to her new friends - she wanted to come back to the clan someday, and meet her new friends again. Before she left, she bid good luck to PidgeonsOnEdge, hoping that she'd get her wish as a Traveller's Lodge employee.

As she flew off with Akura, she thought about Owen. She realized that she had a bit of a crush on him, and wanted to come back someday to tell him.

It was a relatively short trek from the Plaguebringer's lands to Dragonhome, settling down in the local tavern and inn. The stay was comfortable yet fairly uneventful, although knowledge of the establishment itself was told to her. Each room, aside from the entry cavern, were carved out by the many Earth dragons, space made to hold visitors and anyone who may be new and still looking for a place to stay.
