The map crinkles as you run your claws over the weathered surface. The map depicts a city, though if it had a name it's long since worn away. In fact, the second you saw the map stuffed into a cubby hole of your great grandfather's lair, you felt like you knew where it would lead, wordless as it was. Adventure. Excitement! If no where else, it would lead away from the things you know. Months of pouring over local legends and old parchments and buying drinks for dusty travelers paid off when you met a grizzled old Mirror on a particularly cold evening. He was half-starved, covered in grime from snoot to tail tip, yet his eyes were bright and alert. As he stole into the Inn with the best prices and worst fireplace in your territory, he seemed to search you out. You lounged with him, plying the Mirror with drinks and food until he told you a story. A story that, after you slept on it that night, prompted you to leave the next morning, map firmly in hand. You shake your head to dispel the cobwebs of the memory as you study the map again, deciding which of the three mysterious spots marked on its surface would bring you what you seek. A reason, any reason at all, to continue this mad quest. The sleepless nights, the lonely days of travel. Dank taverns and even worse Inns. Thieves of every sort. If it weren't for your wandering heart would you have even left the safety of your lair? Was it all worth it? That's what you need to find. That's what will ease your spirit and let you continue to be the adventurer you always wanted to be. |
