Biography
RIPTIDE
Uh-oh, looks like this little sailor wandered a little too far from his home lair (Await, 494991), and now he's off to see the world! If you ever feel the urge to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him home instead, or to the 'Dragons Off to See the World' thread. If you don't want another traveler in return, you can also drop him off at the Traveling Dragon Rest Hub! |
plurals - The Crystal Cove
Riptide came across a little inn and decided to stay there for a little while. He hadn't expected traveling to be so exhausting and was ready for a short break. He enjoyed his time there, making friends with many dragons, including a strange dragon(s?) - of a breed he had not seen before... something called an Aberration. Then Riptide had some odd food from the Starfall Isles before he decided it was time to leave.
Adrasci - The Diegetic Dwelling
When Riptide arrived at the lair, he had to double-check to make sure that he didn't stumble into the wrong location. All sorts of dragons ran around in the Diegetic Dwelling, with nearly no patterns outside of everyone traveling in pairs. He could swear that a Nocturne was following him, but couldn't really see it. At some point, he could see a Dynamite covering her reddened face while trying to talk to a Coatl. Riptide decided to move past that, but changed his mind and joined the conversation. Learning their names, he learned that Kajiko was crushing on Falbe, but had no idea how to get it out. After finishing his chat with Kajiko, feeling mischievous, he went to Falbe and told him about the crush. Falbe was pretty surprised and went over to talk to Kajiko, and Riptide took this as an opportunity to move on.
He encountered a melting, unnamed Wildclaw and an Obelisk, caressing each other and trying to stay calm. Riptide tried to chat with the duo, but quickly learned that they could barely communicate and ended up searching for the most normal of these dragons.
That turned out to be Gaea, a fellow traveler who was quite friendly with Riptide. After chatting with Gaea, Riptide decided it was time to go out and find a different clan, but changed his mind once he saw the stars in the sky and decided to rest here. After flying through half of the lair, a fellow Fae stopped him, and let him borrow his nest to sleep in. "Hm, not bad," Riptide thought, slowly falling asleep...
Riptide was woken up by a daring Spiral who wanted to fight him immediately. Rather cranky, he aggressively chirped, attracting the attention of Uriel, who took the Spiral away from the perimeter.
It would be an unfortunate coincidence when a creature of dark form tore from the ground, pouncing towards Uriel in the blink of an eye. Various dragons rushed ahead to help, and soon the violence transformed into a ball of aggressive noises. Riptide looked at the mess dumbfoundedly, and flew away. Whatever that thing was, it wasn't his problem.
Riptide snagged a few books and some cooked bugs on his way out of this strange and combative clan, though he quickly found himself lost...
sgkat - The Sunbeam Lanternhouse
Riptide was fortunate enough to find his way to the Traveling Dragon Rest Hub, which was nice after the chaos of his previous stop. However... after a certain amount of resting, he grew bored. He'd heard of another inn, one that seemed to accommodate its travelers' needs... he took off for the Sunbeam Ruins.
On the cliffs above Lanternlea Port, he found the inn of his rumors: the Sunbeam Lanternhouse. Its residents were warmly welcoming, and that was all well and good... but Riptide didn't want to take part in arts and crafts or dance or laze around in the Meadow; that all seemed more of the same sort of resting he'd just left behind.
He hung around a few days, getting more and more restless, and just when he was about ready to continue his journey, the Seawrack sailed into port, with, as its name suggested, all kinds of flotsam and jetsam for trade. It seemed a low-profit endeavor to Riptide, but he didn't dare suggest such a thing to the Captain, a no-nonsense Fathom with strong opinions on anything and everything sea-wrack, since he wanted a ride. He'd wanted to sail so badly for so long...
Fortunately, he didn't offend the Captain and he was allowed onto the Seawrack under the condition that he work when commanded. He'd expected as much and readily agreed.
It was hard work, learning to interpret the signs from Iemanja and hauling in the wreckage of the seas, and sometimes dangerous, as they headed north along the ever-changing coast of the Worldedge Wetlands, but he thoroughly enjoyed it: he was living his dream.
He sometimes felt the eyes of the Captain on him, and at those times redoubled his efforts at whatever he was doing: hauling in the nets, scrubbing the decks, taking depth readings, looking out for Iemanja... He knew this was a short trial voyage, and he really didn't want to be found lacking.
When they returned to the Sunbeam Lanternhouse, Iemanja - not the Captain - instructed him to take their booty ashore alone and then rest. He wasn't sure whether that was a good sign or a bad one, but he did as he was told without complaint.
He endured an afternoon and evening of suspense. He threw himself into those activities he'd scorned before, desperate for a distraction.
It was only after the evening's entertainment was wrapping up that the Captain approached him and, with no ceremony whatsoever, informed him gruffly that he was invited to join the Seawrack as a permanent hand.
He tried to hide how much the offer meant to him, tried to accept with the stoicism his new Captain seemed to expect, but his tears betrayed him.
Kaimana surprised him by grinning, clapping him on the shoulder, and offering him a jar of seashells. "Some commemorative seawrack of your very own. Welcome aboard."
