Most light dragons love the day, but Echys loves the night. The night is when the stars of Sornieth are out, arranged like a mysterious map upon the indigo tapestry that hangs over all of the world – even the goddamn Runic Mountain Range. It’s the nighttime when Echys can finally continue her work from the safety of her observatory, the technologically advanced building perched on the second tallest mountain peak in the area and away from the other insane inhabitants who somehow have yet to perish due to their stupidity. There’s peace, there’s quiet, and there’s– MUFFIN GET THE #$@% OFF THAT TELESCOPE OR I WILL HAVE YOUR HIDE!

Ahem. There’s peace, there’s quiet, and there’s serenity, a concept that is clearly foreign to the rest of the rambunctious members of the Aequitas Clan. As an astronomer, Echys needs complete concentration to be connected to the stars, something that cannot be achieved if someone is YELLING about THEIR BEST IDEA EVER before BLOWING UP HALF THE MOUNTAIN, thank you very much. For that reason, she doesn’t live with the rest of the other inhabitants. (Even if Demeter insists that she’s their clanmate. She is NOT. There is absolutely no way she is going to be associated with *makes rude gesture* all of that. Nope. No chance at all. She has STANDARDS, unlike some peasants.)

Instead, Echys lives in her very own observatory. It’s equipped with the finest astronomy tools that can be found in Sornieth, all “purchased” by Echys herself via the virtue of Erigone Express. The shopping itself was relatively easy, as Echys discovered that anything she’s touching will be transported back to the Runic Mountain Range when the Drowste Spell yanks her back – even if she hasn’t paid for it! To a certain extent, at least. She can’t transport things that are too big, which is rather unfortunate. (Echys’ tried stealing the Observatory before, but all she got was radioactivity-induced rash when she was teleported back.)

All of these purchases are going to a good cause. That is, Echys’ dream of mapping the entire starscape of Sornieth. It was for this dream that she set out from her home in the Sunbeam Ruin, ignoring the insistence of those that most of the sky had already been mapped and she can just map the unmapped portions. But no, Echys won’t be doing anything the easy way. She’s going to be the first astronomer who maps the entire sky personally, without a cheat sheet the other cheapskates rely on.

And her plans haven’t hit a setback just because she was tossed into the Runic Mountain Range, either. While Echys learned through trial and error that the Drowste Spell affects the entire area (she could’ve just asked her “clanmates,” but why would she do that?) – she’s figured out one very important thing. That is, the spell doesn’t encompass the sky, which means that it’s possible to use the stars to pinpoint her location in Sornieth. Echys thought this breakthrough was worthy of being sung from the very top of the Aequitas Lair, but by the time she got there everyone who had been waiting for her “big news” had gotten bored and went back down the mountain. Miffed, the Nocturne retreated to her observatory. Well, the others can ignore her discovery if they want to! She’ll be the one laughing when she figures out how to navigate her way out of the Runic Mountain Range. And no, she won’t be helping the rest of her “clanmates.” They deserve to rot.

To that end, nobody is allowed near Echys’ observatory. It’s built on the second tallest peak in the Runic Mountain Range, far enough from the Aequitas Lair to escape light pollution (those heathens) and close enough for her to sneak in a borrow essentials like food and the occasional apparel when need be. Of course, because her observatory was blatantly declared off-limits, everyone suddenly gained an interest in dropping by for a visit. Echys clearly saw through those schemes, so she performed the normal arcane incarnation of folding a paper crane with her desire scrawled on top and throwing it down one of the air vents in the lair with a couple of blue gems. A couple days later, she was bonked with several giant cannons sealed inside a neat scroll, ready for installation.

And so the great War of Cannons was ushered in.

For seven days and seven nights, the observatory’s cannons bombarded multiple dragons including Vespera, Unnamed, Pachetonas, and Nagara. For seven days and nights, the same dragons bonded together in an unusual and short-lived union as they peppered the observatory with insults, magic bolts, and the occasional flaming rock. But in the end, Echys’ cannons prevailed. Of course, by the time a week had passed the other dragons decided it probably wasn’t worth it to do a frontal assault on the observatory anyway. There were plenty of ways to sneak into it later.

And so, the Great War ended. Peace returned to Echys’ observatory, where she remains to this day nose-deep in her stargazing. The only dragons she allows into her personal space is Erigone, who teleports her all over the world to map other parts of the sky, and Universa, who is the only dragon that has shown a sincere interest in Echys’ observations. Now, Echys isn’t sure why this so-called oracle would be interested in the stars – but if forced to admit it, she’s rather eager to share her research regardless. After all, there’s no point in mapping out the entire sky if nobody is there to serve as a witness, and Universa’s decent enough company when she’s not blatantly poking her nose where it shouldn’t be.

Oh, and there's that snake, too. Echys still isn't sure how a rattlesnake managed to slither its way past the security system, but she found it curled up and snoozing in her kitchen one day and made the choice to keep it. Camelopardalis' name is too hard to pronounce, so oftentimes Echys shortens his name to Cam. Cam can be found wherever it's warm, which is usually at the bottom of the basket of Praline-branded freshly-baked bread Universa brings over for a nightsky-watching session.

Speaking of the sky, though, Echys has noticed something odd about it. As said before, she’s capable of calculating where the Runic Mountain Range is located based on the stars and sun, which was one of the first things she did when she set up her observatory. However, the location of the Mountain Range continuously changes. The first time she recorded it, the coordinates show that the mountains were located at the Arcane-Plague border. Then it shifted to Starwind Bay. Then the Starwood Forest, and then even to the top of the Focal Point! Echys isn’t sure what could possibly explain this other than the Runic Mountain Range is continuously being teleported. But so far she hasn’t figured out how this works – aside from the fact, of course, that the Runic Mountain Range always seems to orbit around the central point of the Starfall Isles.

And no, that’s not the Observatory. The Starfall Isles isn’t perfectly circular, after all. Sorry, Arcanist.
