Mushrooms are hardy things. Left to their own devices, they will grow and multiply anywhere that the dark and dank is found, and that's true even of ones that weren't originally grown in a cavern of monstrous proportion full of chaotic primordial magics.

Magic mushrooms aren't much different from their less sentient brethren: they find the cold, the dark, and the dank. And they grow...

Before the Now, they were CHAINED.

When Her Gift flooded the mycelium and burned away the connection, there was freedom in it, and they threw themself into the wide void, their energies ricocheting through the fruiting bodies of the mushrooms that were budding in a hundred potential realities, in a thousand hopeful dreams. Here, in this space where they were everywhere and nowhere, was where they should die; and they vibrated with anger and challenge, daring death to come, even as the universe tore at them. They fought eternity and screamed.

Death did not come.

Perhaps they were too WILD.



The mushrooms take root easily and spread their hyphae across the corner of the domain they had claimed, turning nutrients into fuel into shape. The magic remembers that this soul was once something more than this. They grow rampant and without care, the smallest of the mushrooms stretching out a good ten or twenty metres away from the main colony.

When it opens its eyes, it does so with its mouth opening and snarling at anyone who is too close, the hyphae that had bound its body while it was growing snapping with the suddenness of the movement. It takes time for it to trust anyone other than those who brought home its colony; though its loyalty is steadfast and unending, once earned...
