Biography
- architect, once well regarded. used arcane magic to create designs that would not be physically possible under ordinary circumstances
- ambitious and always looking to improve his work, he studied architectural spells constantly and was always trying to push the boundaries with his designs
- things take a turn after he is charged with making a big fancy mansion for some really rich and esteemed dragons. he decides to impress them by making the mansion three times as large on the inside than on the outside, accomplished by manipulating pocket dimensions
- during construction, his assistant does the math and realises there's not way a pocket dimension of that size is sustainable. Lansbury brushes off his concerns, as there can't possibly be a problem with his designs and he really needs this to be a success for his reputation
- everything goes wrong during the grand opening, when Lansbury holds a big party to show off the finished product to the rich couple and a bunch of their rich friends. the multiple pocket dimensions collapse into one actual parallel dimension, and the house now contains infinite space
- everyone except Lansbury quickly becomes lost in the mansion's endless, labyrinthian hallways which are continually expanding and warping. the building is quickly identified as a hazard to the integrity of spacetime and is seized by a team of elite arcane scientists
- a handful of those who disappeared in the mansion eventually manage to escape, but the majority never do and are declared lost forever. even those that did escape (including Lansbury's assistant) are forever scarred by the experience, their minds shattered from being forced to comprehend and survive in dimension defying architecture for an uncountable amount of time
- eventually it is determined that if the mansion is left unchecked the dimension within could collapse outwards, potentially consuming all of the starfall isles. In light of this, the scientists reluctantly demolish it for safety's sake (they would have liked to keep studying such a fascinating phenomena if possible)
- Lansbury is unaware of most of this, because he fled the arcane region in the immediate aftermath of the incident. after a period of constant travelling to get as far away from his problems as he could, he ends up in the driftwood drag (not actually that far as the dragon flies, but the tangled woods do have the scarred wasteland separating them for arcane, so it may as well be on another planet)
- he meets Amory and Sunscream, who have recently dug out their first lair. knowing the will need to expand, he immediately offers his services as an architect
- fast-forward to now, and Lansbury is the head of construction at the clan, responsible for designing almost all of it. only Amory, Sunscream, and his two daughters know what he did in the past, and even then he bent the truth about how bad things went, and told them he was exiled rather than fled
- still, he's learnt his lesson and will never ever build anything that ambitious ever again. Ever. Definitely never again.
- though really, the only reason the mansion failed was because his calculations were wrong, if he did it again now it would probably work fine, right?
- and given all the powerful magical activity in the area, with a bit more study he could potentially harness it to design a building even more impressive than what he sought to accomplish back in arcane. a building so grand it would earn him back his reputation!
- i mean, it couldn't hurt to try, right? right??
