Vindemiatrix was the first dragon to join Alhena and Wasat's new clan. Overjoyed--and wanting to make a good impression despite the tiny clan's poverty-- Alhena gave her her own familiar at the time, a Storm Seeker which Vindemiatrix adored. Even now that she has a new familiar, the bird is often to be found in her vicinity. In personality, Vindemiatrix is brash, inquisitive, and--while seemingly distractable--extremely strong-willed. She may change directions a hundred times to get to her goal, but get it she will. She is capable of surprising insights into others' minds and motivations. On the negative side, she can be quite erratic, growing more so over time, and she's never had a very good sense of personal boundaries. She is close friends with Alhena and has a complicated relationship with Alrakis, who has sired two of her clutches. Vindemiatrix was one of the first elite warriors of the clan, along with Alrakis and Alhena herself. For a long time, she fought bravely in their company, protecting her kin against enemies, gaining wealth and glory for the clan, and training candidates for the Lightweaver's direct service. She became known for both her recklessness--for in those days she refused to wear armor, even when her lack of a helm nearly cost her an eye--and her cunning in battle. However, injuries have taken their toll. Rather than risk her partners or the young dragons entrusted to her care, she has entered into a partial and (she hopes) temporary retirement, and intends to return to battle only as part of a team of three, not as a field-trainer. She is still Captain of the Guard and mentor to all the young warriors of the clan, but she no longer commands from the front lines.
