——— ———
The dragons of the clan Föhn see the cloaked Pearlcatcher through the tufts of bamboo on occasion, especially within the morning dew. They have determined the species through the orb that is wrapped tight with her tail as she lumbers along through the bamboo forest. The bamboo shoots sing as the wind blows through them as she walks past. The signs of one horn, not two horns, giving away the fact the Pearlcatcher is female. She didn’t stop to speak to the dragons who pause in their daily lives to watch her. Glowing light green eyes look over to them before she disappears within the bamboo as if she wasn’t a physical being. Sometimes, the dragons who see her swear that her image fades from their minds over time despite her not being a dragon to forget.

Knowledgeable. Smart. Fearful. Afraid.
Astraeus didn’t remember much of her past. She remembered waking in the bamboo forest with a hazy memory. The Pearlcatcher remembered surviving by herself. Her natural instinct when others approached was to shrink herself before scurrying off into the innermost part of the forest. She was frustrated with her fearfulness; she couldn’t even remember why she feared other dragons. As such, she grew learning about the different plants, animals and poisons within the forest. She found which fungi were poisonous by eating pieces of them. She found which insects were terrible in taste despite their scent. Overtime, she learned which herbs were good for sickness, injury and stress relief. Astraeus began to hoard such herbs to help the wildlife within the area. She had even learned a few things from passing beast clan members. The Pearlcatcher still ran from other dragons. She didn’t want to be seen by them. Wearing the cloak made it a bit better for her to travel near the outskirts of the forest … she didn’t dare venture into the clan.

Kind.
Despite her fear and weariness of dragons, Astraeus couldn’t find herself to leave the injured Imperial to himself. His left wing was bent in an unnatural shape. He had claw markings all over his body. Bite marks were on his neck. She shivered a bit as she stared at the struggling dragon. Despite Imperials being one of the bigger species, he had been taken down by something. She made a noise as he collapsed to the ground before scurrying over to him. The Imperial hissed at her causing the Pearlcatcher to pause. She gulped before placing her pearl near a bunch of bamboo shoots. Vines and other vegetation seemed to wrap around it as soon as her tail released the pearl. The forest kept her precious items safe when she was busy. The animals appeared with her satchel of herbs. She smiled as she thanked them for their timeliness. Astraeus took a deep breath through her nose before releasing it from her maw. She walked toward the Imperial, him hissing at her once again, as she gave him a look from underneath her cloak. Her light green eyes glowed and the Imperial quieted.
“W-Where does it hurt?” she asked.
Her voice was soft and sweet. It was low and alto. The Imperial watched the cobwebs swing on her wings as she moved around him to determine where he hurt the worst. She touched his wing, and he roared in pain. Astraeus jumped from his roar as she backed away from him. She had hit the ground with her stomach as her ears dropped. The Imperial watched her shrink away from him before he sighed. The dragon laid his on the ground as he rolled it a bit to the side to show he couldn't hurt her. He was too injured and weak to hurt the Pearlcatcher. Astraeus’ ears perked as she realized the Imperial wasn’t going to do anything to her. He was in pain, and he showed his pain.
“S-Sorry,” she managed to stutter out of her snout.
“Not used to other dragons?” he asked her.
“N-No,” she answered. “I-I stay a-away from other dragons.”
“Why?” he asked as he readjusted himself for her.
——— ———
The Pearlcatcher walked over to him before moving to touch his wing. He hissed, but the Imperial did not roar. He didn’t want to scare her. Astraeus moved his wing into its proper position before managing to place a stent on it. Pieces of bamboo and some vines did wonders when a wing or limb had been broken. She rummaged through her satchel before handing a plant to the dragon.“Eat this, p-please,” she said. “It’ll keep the p-pain a-away.”
“You didn’t answer my question,” he told her as he ate the plant.
“I do not know the answer m-myself,” she whispered. “I don’t r-remember why I fear others like myself.”
“That’s kind of sad,” he told her before managing to lay on his stomach. “Not to remember why you fear others to try and get over that fear.”
“I-I’m talking to y-you,” she whispered as she moved to make a paste for his other wounds.
“That’s a start,” the Imperial said. “What are you making?”
“A paste for your wounds,” she answered him. “It’ll s-sting. I’m sorry.”
The Imperial placed his head on the ground as she began to place the paste on his wounds and bite marks. He winced before watching her as she worked. He tilted his head a bit.
“Aren’t you going to ask me what happened?”
“It’s not my business,” she answered him as she finished. “I just know that despite my fears -- I can’t leave an injured creature alone.”
Her voice had grown quiet and compassionate. The male dragon chuckled before he moved to rest his head on the ground, relaxed, as he closed his eyes. The plant she gave him had begun to take effect. His pain was going away. Astraeus watched him as he began to lull off. She smiled a bit before going to put her stuff away in her satchel. She knew the dragon was going to have to stay with her until his wounds and wing healed. From their conversation, she figured it would be alright to have a guest of her own kind. She grabbed her pearl from the vines before heading further into the forest.
She would have to make room from her guest.
Slowly learning. Never yielding. Child of the Bamboo Forest.
