Eon and Era are fascinated by the concept of Time, which is something that didn't exist to their kind before they were brought to the Surface. Their eternal attempts to understand the linear way that Time marches on for mortal creatures has resulted in more than one failed experiment... Their children are born of shadow, nature and occasionally wind. Each nest of hatchlings has their own unique traits, as yet undiscovered...

Eon

They came from Underground, the many made one and then many, and they flourished where they could, in the dank and the dark. The Progenitor came into the dank and the dark, seeded with mycelium and ready to receive them, and when the Undergound changed and shook with the fury of the Gods, the Progenitor returned to the surface and fell, becoming less than what he was and more like them. Their spores fell with him, finding roost in the dank and the dark of the corners of the land, feeding on the magic of the world, their colonies growing thick with the bountiful sustenance found on the Surface. They traced the shape of the creatures that populated the realm, nurturing their forms to be like Them, the living flesh and blood creatures that walked and flew above the Underground. They waited - all fungus knows is patience, patience - until their shape was Perfect and they were indistinguishable from Them - and then they began to spread...

All that are borne Forsaken can feel the hyphae, the links from Mycelium to sporelings and back again, the connection that make the one into many and the many into one, urging at the back of their thoughts and whispering through their veins. They can taste their Gifts humming through the undying network that traces back to the colonies that produced them.

xxxNot all of their children awaken their Connection. Some vanish, Lost, never to be heard of again. Some never attain true sentience and eventually dissolve back into the nutrients that created them. Some become more than they were created from and become almost - almost - real dragons; the magic of Sornieth changing fungus to flesh and severing Connection in exchange for singular minds. Some interbreed with the dragons around them and produce strange new creations, and for these the Connection is hardest of all: without a teacher to show them how, the sensation remains forever dormant, a whisper of half-thoughts not quite their own in the eddies of their subconscious, backwash across the hyphae that link them all. No matter their form, they are more than just dragons.
