Zero is a difficult dragon to get along with. Growing up in the The Fortress of Ends in the Southern Icefield, he hails from a long line of Gaolers. In fact, his grandfather was part of the original wave to re-emerge into modern Sornieth and reveal themselves to their new kin. He was taught from a young age to be strong, and raised with very masculine values and love for tradition. Unfortunately, this has made it harder for him to relate to and socialize with many modern dragons, though he means well. When he came of age, he was encouraged by his family to explore Sornieth, instead of anchoring himself to the Ice Flight.

Though it pained him to leave home, he respected and trusted in his parents judgement. He traveled and visited flight after flight, however while he was in the Lightning Flight, something gave him pause. He met another Gaoler, one unlike the ones he had grown up with; unlike the piercing alabaster of the Gaoler's homeland, this one had the piercing electric blue indicative of a dragon raised in the Shifting Expanse. He spent several moons there, mostly to speak to her and find out why a Gaoler would be so far from the icefield. He came to learn her family had abandoned the Ice Flight sometime ago, and she was born and raised at the expanse, and was largely disconnected from her kin. So in the moons he spent with her, he told her of their traditions, of the icefield, of the Fortress, and the two quickly fell in love. When Sugarplum admitted to him that she hated it in the expanse, and expressed a desire to run away, they resolved to leave the expanse that night: together.

They intended to head back to the Icefield, but the two decided they would finish Zero's tour of Sornieth first. Their plans were derailed when, while in the Sunbeam Ruins, Zero was injured by Luminax, having been frozen in terror, as he'd never seen an Emperor Dragon before. Sugarplum hurried him to safety, far from the Light Flight, and landed them both in Deltamoor, where they have stayed since as he recovers.
