Electroplating, the art of binding a thin veneer of one metal to the surface of another, whether for decor or, in the case of Oakrest's Hunters, defense against the dead, is more straightforward than one might think. It's simply the matter of wanting to learn the process and then devoting one's self to it that often stands in the way of others from learning the skill. After all, why bother learning to electroplate when you could instead learn smithing or weaving or a hundred other skills? But sometimes it's a necessary talent. Silver ore is in rare supply, especially when so many have need of it. If you can stretch it so that the merest molecules of the element settle on the surface, then there's more to go around. Malv seems the type that many might consider the absent-minded professor, except that he's not quite so clever for the part. He's hulking and strong, and in a certain light his fur shines with a marking unsettlingly like a skull, but otherwise he's quiet, almost stiff, and does his work. That's what the folks in the Citadel like most about him - this dragon knows how to work. It's almost like he never learned how to relax, and the only comfort he can find is with electrodes and water baths. Still, he gets the job done, and some days, that's all that can be asked of anyone. |
