BIOGRAPHY

Fingael Wardwalker is many things, but all who meet him agree on one most of all: downright strange. No one can quite figure out what he does and how, but he has a knack for worming his way into and out of the most peculiar situations.

STORY

"Say, what exactly were you going to do if I declined?" Wardwalker asked, his long body draped across an icy crag. Strangely, the colorful Spiral didn't seem to feel the biting cold; at least, he appeared to handle it better than the Imperial beside him.

"I don't know. I didn't bother to plan," the Imperial mumbled, coiling around a small fire. The chill seemed to penetrate every inch of her to the very bone despite the black fur coat wrapped around her body. She shivered. Gods, it was cold.

"Oh? That's unlike you," the Spiral teased, fluttering his wings and rising from the ground.

"And it's unlike you to turn down a job," she shot back.

"HAH! Perhaps you know me better than I thought," the Spiral barked. The Imperial didn't flinch as Wardwalker suddenly appeared mere inches from her face, an almost insane grin splitting his face. "I'll do the job, don't you worry your pretty self," he laughed, ruffling her mane with one paw. With a crack not unlike that of a whip, Wardwalker suddenly reappeared several feet away, gathering the belongings he'd left on the ground.

"Now, why don't you go down somewhere warmer? After all, I still have some friends to find," Wardwalker suggested, donning his top hat and suit.

The Imperial stubbornly shook her head, tossing another log into the fire and strengthening the blaze with her own breath. She sighed, then responded, "I'm not leaving."

Wardwalker froze at the response, quite literally falling from his position in the air into the small pile of stuff he'd yet to pick up. He popped up a moment later, giving the Imperial his best and most threatening glare.

"Listen here, kid. You'll freeze to death if you stay here," he growled. "That little wolf cloak you've got won't help much in this cold. We're in the bloody Crags!"

"Kid? I'm the older one. Besides, I'm not the one who insisted on meeting here!" the Imperial snapped.

"One, you don't know how old I actually am. And two, you're right, I insisted. Now I insist that you go and wait somewhere else," the Spiral answered coolly, smoothing the wrinkles out of his suit. "You're lucky it didn't get stained," he mumbled.

"I couldn’t care less about your suit. I told yo—"

"Yes, yes, yes, you told me. Evil witch, we must stop her, blah blah blah. But! You're not strong enough, I'm not strong enough, so first I gotta go find someone who is. And while I know someone, I have no idea where they are, so listen to me and get off this bloody mountain so I can go do what you asked me to without me also having to worry about you! Alright, Zen?" Wardwalker babbled in annoyance, drawing closer with every word and stopping only when he held her face in his paws. His grip weakened a little when her flaming gaze met his pink eyes, his breath catching in his throat. He sighed, pulling away and clutching his head.

"...Fine."

Wardwalker's head snapped up in surprise, eyes wide. For the first time in his memory, his heart tightened as he watched Zen stare dejectedly at her powerless paws and the icy ground beneath her. Even from his distance, he could hear her sigh as she gingerly stood and spread her wings.

"I'll wait for you by the foot, Fingael."

"Hey! You know I..." Wardwalker began, only to pause as she vanished into the snow-cloaked lands below, too far to hear him. He chuckled.

"You know I hate that name... but I suppose I deserved that," he muttered to himself. The Spiral turned his gaze to the horizon, looking past the lands below, steeling himself for the upcoming journey. Fingael Wardwalker took one last deep breath of the frigid air, smiling at the traces of her that lingered in that final gasp, vowing internally to return someday with someone or something that could help her... and perhaps also him.

~~~
Zen stood at the mountain's foot. No longer was it so brutally cold that she could feel her very blood freezing within her, but somehow it felt even colder at the foot than on that cliff. Even from thousands of feet below their former position, she thought she heard a familiar crack echoing through the crags. It drew her attention skywards where, to her pleasure, the ominous clouds were parting to reveal a night sky lit only by cold, distant stars. Her fiery eyes widened a little as a subtle sparkle of pink and blue light winked at her from one of the many millions of stars above, but there was no warmth left in her heart. Not anymore.
