Life was amazing. She was gifted by the Flamecaller Herself with incredibly strong influence over fire. So strong that fire burned from their eyes for all eternity, but yet was not a hindrance to her sight nor did it cause pain. She was only a few of the Banescales that were lucky enough to hatch with such flame power. The raw energies of flame provided great opportunities. Opportunities, and advantages.

Incandescence had always had a deep hatred for their icy counterparts, the Gaolers. She heard the stories. She saw their power. It was something that she saw as a constant threat - that if they did not take action, their entire livelihood would be wiped out in a sheet of ice. That their Flames would be snuffed like they never burned. But behind her back, her sister had other thoughts. Unknown to her, her sister Pomnit had found herself in love with one, a Gaoler named Porparre. A forbidden love that stayed hidden for the safety of both dragons.

But soon, tensions between Fire and Ice became out of control. War broke out. Flames and ice fought viciously, the Banescales wanting to wipe any frost from the planet to claim it as their own. To cover the world in flame and make the opposition burn for their resistance. But the Gaolers were just that bit stronger. Banescales were wiped out almost completely. Eggs were hidden, waiting to be born, but all Banescales above lost their lives to a horrific frozen death. Incandescence was one of those fatalities, her sister and forbidden lover having been killed earlier due to their secret being found. It seemed as if the Banescales were finally extinct.

Time passes...and the grounds begin to rumble with a new flame. A new flame which sent the remaining Gaolers into panic. They surely weren't coming back, right...? There was no way... But unfortunately for them, a new generation of Banescales entered the world. Those that perished were reincarnated, in a way, due to the flowing magma that filled the chambers their remains rested.

They were back.

While most Banescales were enjoying a new freedom of their second life, Incandescence was unlucky. In her waking moments, there stood above her a dragon of ice like none other she had ever seen before in her first life. Just its aura alone was freezing everything around it, and from how it had been looking at her, it certainly wasn't a friendly creature. And she'd be right. Before she could say anything, before she could threaten this dragon of ice, everything went dark. Dark, and cold.

Once she had awoken, she found herself bound in horrifically cold shackles, the area around her being completely that of ice and snow and metal. Her mouth was bound shut. Her wings were unable to open. Her movement was severely restricted and she had been locked to a tiny, icy cell. But she wasn't alone. She could hear the shivers and whimpers of others nearby, and one poor soul across from her was a Banescale just like she. But he looked completely sapped of his fire, save for his eyes which continued to weakly burn. From the ice that had grown on his scales to form a skeleton, almost as a symbol that the ice was slowly killing him, it was obvious this Banescale was here for a long time. She later learned his name was Emal, and he was the second one to be trapped here - the first victim being an unfortunate little Pearlcatcher by the name of Flare just a cell away from the two of them. Her state was easily the worst out of the five of them (once she discovered yet another Banescale, named Myrrh, and another poor recently caught Pearlcatcher named Tigerseye...), as ice nearly completely consumed the poor dragon that was stolen from her home. But Incandescence wasn't going to allow herself to the same fate as these other four dragons. She was going to escape.

With the fire still burning deep within her from her recent revival from magmatic remains, Incandescence waited. She waited for the perfect moment to let loose her flaming powers to melt her icy prison walls and escape. Nearby, though, sat a Gaoler. A dragon she hated since before her murder, a dragon born of ice and covered in chains himself. However, he was not bound. No, these chains hung from all over the creature's body. But he didn't even seem like he was his own dragon. No, he worked under the large Guardian that captured her. A pawn for the larger dragon to do his bidding with without having to lift a talon himself. A toy. Incandescence knew she would be risking her second life if she dare try to escape with that strange yet horrifying thing nearby, but she couldn't wait forever.

Gathering enough from deep within her, just enough flame was to escape her mouth to melt the metal around it, allowing her mouth to fully open and shoot a plume at the icy walls behind her. And they began to melt after only just a few seconds. The other prisoners were yelling at her to stop, pleading for her to not bother, begging for her to not risk her life at a mere attempt for freedom. The Gaoler, on alert, was now slowly stalking his way to Incandescence cage, his chains rattling with every robotic movement he made. But before he made it to the cell, before Blizzard came running down to see what in the world was happening and stop it, the newly caught Banescale smashed through the walls of the prison and used every last ounce of energy within her to escape. Her legs powered her forth at blinding speeds, her wings just loosely bound enough now from the slight melting of her shackles to allow minimal flapping to go even faster. She knew she would be followed. She knew they'd hunt her down. But she wasn't going to let them get her so easily. She was going to put up just as much of a fight as she did when the first war broke out - when the Gaolers wiped her kind out and presumably snuffed their flame. Her scales had warped already from the cold, but this was from a mix of being newly created and still being somewhat frail, and the unfathomable cold that whatever that strange creature that captured her gave off. All she had to do now was make it back home. Back home to the rivers of magma that bubbled for her to return.

Catch me if you can, dragons of ice!
