After a somewhat stilted conversation with Zoltanos, you leave his island and fly to the one directly behind his. This one is fairly large and multi tiered, the larger of the flats on the bottom. The lower area is mostly grassy, though it spills into a large sand pit that looks like a training arena. Off to the right, hidden behind the rocky ledge of the upper flat, you hear the sound of a small waterfall, and you can barely spy a rock-lined pool of water tucked in that corner. You follow the wooden steps to the second lair, finding a solidly built bamboo structure there. There’s an indoor area with large sliding doors, and then a patio of sorts with an overhang, a large fireplace just beyond the overhang. You spy a variety of potted plants on the edge of this patio, all growing wildly and untamed. On the very edge of the island is a massive oak tree, it’s roots reaching over the edge to cling to the underside in a show of strength.
“Greetings,” An Imperial calls as he steps out from the home, “Come for a mercenary? You’re in the right place, my name is Haze and welcome to my home.”

Haze was born in the Windswept Plateau and, while he valued his Flight above most things, he did not take to their creative carefree nature as one may expect. From a young age, Haze was adventurous--nothing unusual for a Wind hatchling--and went about his days exploring the land around his clan on his own. He was not particularly social with other hatchlings his age, and was more withdrawn and measured than the other excitable Wind dragons. Still, he had a deep love for his Flight and the Windsinger himself, so he chose to stay in the land, exploring with an open mind.

When Haze was teetering on the edge of adulthood, he was approached by the Windsinger himself while he was exploring the crevices of the Reedcleft Ascent. The Deity spoke to him, told him that his place in this world was among it’s breezes, wherever they may take him. The Windsinger knew each of his children were unique, and understood that Haze’s life would be that of an adventurer and a warrior. He told the young Imperial that he would craft something marvelous in this life, something that went beyond his own self and reached far into the world: justice for the silent. The Wingsinger seemed proud when he told Haze he should--and would--become an adventurer, and a warrior for the weak, fighting injustice as he found it. He left Haze with two blades, one sleek and black made of fine steel, and the other shimmering silver and emblazoned with the Wind Emblem so he may never forget his origins. Haze walked home stunned, swords tucked close to his side as a new purpose grew in his heart.
From there, Haze began his training. He left his original clan and sought out various swords wielders, asking to be trained by their hands. He learned from many masters, looking to have a proficiency in swordwork that went beyond one style and would be applicable over many situations. He learned to wield a single blade, both left and right handed, and then using both at once, the latter of which became his favorite style that he frequently used. Once he mastered his chosen weapons, he set out to learn hand-to-hand combat--something more difficult for an Imperial his size--as well as tracking, hunting, and general survival skills. Finally, after years of training, Haze was content with his skills and became what he was aiming to become all this time, a warrior for the weak. Though he took on the title of mercenary to support himself financially, Haze never demanded payment and simply fought for the side of good.

Eventually, Haze would come to recognize a need for a true home, as he had mostly been living on the road. He sought out a Wind clan that required his services while also letting him complete his duty passed down by the Windsinger, which is when he discovered the Galestorm Flyers. He entered the clan expecting the classic creative minds of Wind flight, only to discover it was more of a menagerie of many professions, both artisans and warriors. Haze found no trouble in continuing his work as a mercenary, and actually found his aspirations encouraged by many of his clanmates. Now, he calls the Flyers home, though is often out in the world completing his work as a warrior for the weak.

Despite being a naturally born Wind dragon, Haze is not particularly excitable or expressive, often leaning more towards the “Fae” end of the emotionally expressive spectrum. Among clanmates, he is quiet and relatively calm, often maintaining a neutral expression with his emotions bleeding through in soft ways--a gentle smile, the vague furrowed brows of confusion, huffs of annoyance. Haze does not go out of his way to avoid social interaction and is often known to welcome other dragons onto his island without question. Though conversations are limited, he is content to listen to other’s talk or show them about his island. He enjoys small things of peace around him--a tranquil waterfall feeding into a koi pond, a massive oak defying gravity to rest under, nurturing potted plants by his home--and is generally known to be quite passive and gentle until an injustice is presented to him. His warrior persona only emerges when something is unjust or cruel in the world, and he does not rest until the injustice is corrected.
It is of no surprise that Haze has several close friends in the Flyers; he is a gentle and kind dragon with strong morals and a pleasant home. His ability to defend himself and survive easily in the wild granted him a fast friendship with Askan, the resident grumpy survivalist of the clan. Though the two don’t share the same opinions on methods of teaching--Haze prefers more flexibility than Askan provides--they often discuss various techniques and marvel over how vast and dangerous the world is together. Haze’s friendship with Alaric--the past gladiator of the clan--is more based on mutual respect and debt. Haze has never hesitated to help Alaric defend his Mirror pack charge from the world (and their own stupidity) and as such has earned the Guardian’s respect as well as a near constant sense of debt.

Most surprising is Haze’s friendship with Chrysaor, the small fae who holds the power of the Stormcatcher within her. Haze makes no secret of his immense respect and love of the Windsinger and his domain, so many expected his philosophy to clash with that of Chrysaor’s, considering the deity is known to express her loyalty to the Stormcatcher without hesitation. However, the two find a common ground in their philosophies, seeing their different Deities’ as companions rather than enemies.
