Biography
Sometimes all you need is a second chance.
A former spy with a checkered past, Razikale knows the ins-and-outs of the trade like the back of her talons. These days, in addition to hands-on work, she is responsible for managing a small network of informants and spies, as well as foreseeing any necessary countermeasures and defending against those who would threaten Umbersurge Coven. Bio: Aptly named after the trickster God herself, Shadowbinder acted as a spy for Plague dragons in Shadow territory. Despite being born a Shadow dragon, her greed for treasure led her to spy for the enemy. To the Scourge clan, she was known as 'The Eye', due to the insights she gave them into the neighbouring enemy territory. She also often did jobs for dragons outside of the clan and split the earnings 50/50 with them in return for protection. --- Her luck, however, eventually ran out, and when she was caught red-handed by the members of Umbersurge Coven, the Matriarch offered her a choice: stay with the clan and - under heavy guard - begin to make amends, or make her case to her namesake deity. Reluctantly, she chose the former. Confined to the clan's lair by a steel collar laced with a spell of the Matriarch's making, and constantly under watch, Shadow found herself saddled with the jobs no other dragon wanted. It's was no picnic, and involved more familiar droppings than she'd hoped to see in her lifetime, but it beat the alternative. --- Not long after her sentence, the clan hunters returned with a young hatchling, colours much like her own, found abandoned at the outskirts of the Tangled Wood. He was too young to speak, but his vivid red eyes revealed the probable cause for his abandonment - the clan he had been born into had likely seen the coloration of a rival Deity as an ill omen. Shadow doubted it was her former allies, but the experience has left her wondering how easily she, too, might have been cast aside once her usefulness had run its course... It left her feeling strangely empty, craving something she couldn't quite put into words. --- The hatchling grew into a handsome dragon, and eventually the two of them grew close. His view of her was untainted by the past he hadn't been around to witness, and they bonded over the shared plight of their Deity-given colours. Through his eyes, she came to see the clan in a new light: not just as a jailors, but as a group that had banded together to offer outcasts a safe haven. And perhaps, one day, if she was fortunate, a group where wrongdoers could have a second chance. --- The second chance came, but not as expected. A great Pestilence spread through the clan, and to her surprise, Shadow found herself fearing not just for her own life, but for that of her mate, and the clan's hatchlings, and even for the ones who had sentenced her. As the death toll rose, the Matriarch called Shadow to her and, with a wave of her talons, cut loose the magic that was binding her to the lair. Her punishment had been to serve those she had wronged, not a death sentence. She was free to go. Shadowbinder hesitated. For so long, she had wanted nothing more than to leave the lair of her captors behind her. And yet now, when she was finally free... She went to see Shadestalker, hoping that he could help her make sense of it all. And as she'd hoped, he did. --- Perhaps her namesake had blessed them after all. The Pestillence took its toll before the Umbersurge Coven's healer finally found a cure, but Shadow and her mate survived it unscathed, and did their best to help the clan rebuild. As the dust settled, the Matriarch once again approached her, this time to offer her a permanent place in the Coven. As an equal. Gratefully, she accepted, and, much as she was thankful to the Shadow god for her good fortune, took on a new name to mark the start of her new life. Soon afterwards, Razikale stepped in to fill in the shoes of one of the Matriarch's lost daughters. After all, who better to serve as a Spymaster than the likeness of the Shadowbinder herself? |
