ACT I

Psy is a bit of a loose cannon. Rumor has it that he was attacked by a blushing tangle after traversing to the Forbidden Portal for a dare when he was young, and was never the same afterwards. Iridescent scar-like tissue covers most of his body and wings, which glow and flush with strobing colors when utilizing his magic. Except...there's something not quite right with his shadow magic. It's erratic, highly unpredictable, and seems to take a mind of its own as a separate entity. It's unclear where Psy stops and where this shadow entity begins. It is, however, definitively an entity of some kind, which takes form in atypical shimmering shadow masses that Psy expunges through his mouth on an occasional basis, as though he must to prevent it from overflowing in less pleasant ways. This goop has highly acidic and mildly radioactive properties that Psy externally is not immune to.

The entity itself, who goes under the pseudonym "Psyman", seems to manifest itself most when Psy is under distress or danger and can talk through his voice. Its exact role varies from moment to moment; protector, persona, voice of reason, or voice of chaos. Its unpredictable behavior, however, never crosses into violence except under self defense. Psyman appears to have some degree of control over Psy's elemental shadow powers with which Psy does not have overlap with, meaning his full might cannot be realized unless both of them are working cooperatively. It's unknown whether Psyman has always existed, or if it was a result of the incident at the Forbidden Portal.

Psy's unusual behavior and the mere existence of his strange compatriot means that not a lot of dragons have been willing to befriend him in the past. His neuroticism and chronic suspicion of others makes this situation even more improbable, for normally he avoids any and all contact with other people. He is jaded, flighty, and prone to impulse, and has a complicated relationship with Psyman of both distrust and security. It's impossible to tell how Psyman feels about Psy due to its attitudes constantly changing.

Any traces of Psy's family has long since been lost. He has very little memory of anything that happened before the incident.

The amount of stress he's had to put up with on a daily basis - with Psyman, his social isolation, and coping from the horror of the Forbidden Portal - has taken various tolls on him, leaving him with chronic headaches and low energy to do a lot of things in general.
ACT II

Around his teenage years, Psyman seemed to disappear completely or has at least otherwise gone dormant, cutting off a significant portion of Psy's power that fell under its domain. He moved to Lightning territory after taking several days to walk there in a haze. There were many others his age, both rogue and belonging to clans or their own peer groups, who congregated in the thundering deserts. Psy became particularly known for his jaded asocial disposition and prismatic scars. He was quickly snapped up by a research facility called MESA (Magic and Elemental Science Association) seeking to discover the properties of different elemental magic and was paid generously for the valuable data he gave them.

In this time he got to know a handful of people, but only at arm's length. But, through it, he made numerous connections that would later prove to be incredibly valuable. The facility offered him a permanent place of residence so that they could continue to observe him in the long term, and with great deliberation, he reluctantly accepted. For this whole time, however, he had kept the existence of Psyman a secret, seeing that it was inactive and may get him more deeply involved in the project than he wanted to be.

Alas, the secret did eventually come out when during a prolonged test of elemental endurance, the latter half of his untapped energy kicked in, blowing his previous records off the charts. Yet this was not accompanied by an actual appearance of Psyman itself. Through more dedicated study, Psy would become more and more proficient with using the power that had been left stagnated since Psyman's absence as the two identities merged into one person.
ACT III

In his early adult years, Psy became much more grounded and stable emotionally, although never losing his dry and sardonic edge. In this point in time he developed a near-full control of what he began to refer to as a "shadow self", the result of Psy and Psyman's permanent integration. However, his magic more and more began to take properties of arcane magic, resulting in a strange amalgamation of the two with sometimes unpredictable results.

The full extent of Psy's powers weren't even beginning to crest the horizon yet. His abilities stretched into induced hallucinations, void walking - traversing the space between the real world and nothingness - stellar-influenced spells, limited shapeshifting, and even communicating with eldritch entities. The black goop that he had been coughing up years before now no longer harmed him, and moreover could open windows into strange and terrifying realms. He was a force to be reckoned with.

In this time he really started to adopt the prismatic aesthetic, no longer going out of his way to hide his scars but rather embrace them. He was more confident, clever, and assertive, but as independent and private as always, never really truly committing himself to very deep levels of socialization. He was strongly self-interested and did not enjoy getting involved in other people's conflicts for all its stress and baggage unless it served some kind of reasonable benefit for himself.

For some time, Psy used his powers for various purposes, still in loose affiliation with MESA. With the advent of his more interesting abilities, the group became much more heavily focused on dimensional magic rather than merely magic as a whole, and his good connections with the others meant he held a lot of influence over what direction they steered. They vastly increased the size of their team and hunkered down on developing technology for utilizing Psy's unique magic in order to tame the wild forces of the unspeakable, but not everyone they were affiliated with was too keen on what they were getting themselves into considering the effects the Forbidden Portal had had on even Psy himself. To keep their progress obscured, MESA moved to facilities deep underground, wrapping through both Lightning and Fire territory.

Their studies included exploration of the void, an empty plane through which teleportation gateways linked through and only Psy could traverse at the time. MESA's figurehead became very attached to Psy and was increasingly more receptive to his input.
ACT IV

MESA's leader died in an attempt to gain the same cross-elemental power that Psy had. In the power vacuum, he asserted himself as the new leader. But, tiring of staying underground for so much of the time, he began remotely helping them via crossing through dimensions across the realm whilst wearing tracking devices, gathering for them crucial data for where and how these realms worked. Still a nobody in the global presence, Psy's debatably sinister goals for establishing his own permanent realm of residence and summoning beings of other planes made for increasing chaos upon the lands in which these beings were sent to. He tracked them accordingly.

Most of these beings were not much stronger on their lonesome than a couple of dragons and were quick to bond with Psy, lingering in his presence. To this day he continues to wander around the realm sporadically.
