Biography
............. |
Durai had almost given up finding his charge when he came to Windsinger's Haven. He was still on his Search, trying town after town with no luck. However, one day, as he was sweeping through the markets, something instinctual changed. His charge had just been made. Veah, the resident blacksmith, was more than happy to sell him the broadsword infused with her own spark of magic. After each use, he cleans it carefully and almost religiously. Those that try to touch it (or, Windsinger forbid, try to steal it), soon find their life in a precarious position. In his own right, Durai is perhaps the most controversial figure of Windsinger's Haven. Half of the population respects and honors his work while the other half sees him as the worst obstacle to their criminals operations. The problem for these ruffians is that Durai couldn't give a rat's tail even if he did have one. His job is to make sure the city is functional and not run over by thugs, though Peos, his nominal employer, is more on their level. He contends with this moral failing with the thought that blatant danger is more likely to incite anarchy than controlled, hidden treachery. He tries his best to keep a tight fist over the rest of the guards, but corruption spreads deep and wide, and a task like that is impossible for one dragon. In order to keep his guard numbers high, he very rarely investigates small claims about bad behavior, but the more greater transgressors receive punishment. This, he's found, has kept things mostly peaceful within ranks. He has a great appreciation for history and will often spend time in Siroys' museum, trying to convince the pearlcatcher to let him read some documents. Of course, Siroys has to begrudging agree in exchange for a few after-hour protection services. Durai is more than happy to oblige -- he's not going to any taverns anyway, and the more time he has to read about old wars is a win for him.
