They like to call him blunt, probably because calling someone rude tends to offend the dragon in question and given his role most of them don't want to risk that. Infern doesn't really care about that though - he is blunt at times, direct and honest and perhaps he lacks tact but he'd always rather be understood than speak a load of flowery nonsense that could mean anything at all. Of course, some dragons are good at that, but not Inferniorum. He doesn't like it when dragons speak to him like that either - he'd rather people be direct to him and most figure that out eventually. It helps that he really doesn't want to hurt any of them - his job is to fight to protect the clan, after all, and he's known to be honourable at least. It probably helps he's as direct with his compliments as he is with his criticisms though; he's made more than one upset dragon start to smile again by reminding them that they do matter. But in the end he has a job to do - food to hunt and borders to protect and younger dragons to train. His bluntness isn't well suited to training everyone though. |

Some take his direct criticisms harshly, find it crushing - but there's always a few who push beyond that who take those criticisms as a chance to grow and, in doing so, thrive. He'd admit it: those students are his favourites. It's not just watching them grow, either - though that's part of it. There's something magical to helping someone grow and become all they want to be, dipping his hands in the water used to shape their clay, watching them put themselves through the fires that create who they eventually are. But it's also that they understand. The clan knows he's not a threat to them - blunt to the point of rudeness, perhaps, and fierce in fighting, and direct in the extreme, lacking in courtesy but not a threat - but they don't understand. His students understand, though. After that long spent with him, after that long learning with each other too - they understand his bluntness is to avoid misunderstanding, that his words might be rude but he gentles his hands and wings and magic against them when he teaches them for a reason. Because he cares about them. Because they are his students, and he has a duty. |
