Though Destan traces his ancestry to the lands of the Lightweaver, his heart has always belonged first and foremost to the sea. Something about the sound of crashing waves and the tug of passing currents appeals more than any musty scroll. In some ways, his love is all the stronger for how hard it is for him to truly explore the ocean. With only the air in his lungs to protect him, he needs to make the most of his visits. The years have given him a knack for maximizing each and every dive, and he makes a fine living off the pearls and other ocean trinkets he uncovers. His wares might not be the finest quality to be found in the Sea, but he knows how to find items an ordinary diver might overlook.

When not busy with hawking trinkets at the clan bazaar, Destan is most often in the company of Maren. Though he has no qualms with dragonkind, he often prefers their companionship on account of how often they served as friends and mentors in his youth. Though few of the clan's pod are true familiar faces from his early days, he delights in spending time with them. Often, he swaps items from the surface for the rare treasures they find in the ocean's deepest depths.

When the sun kissed the ocean, he was born.

That's at least what his parents always told him. Born at sunset, water gently caressing the eggshell, and then later his tiny claws that he immediately had buried in the wet sand. They told him that they barely managed to get him away from the ocean, which he still can't quite believe. He was just a newborn hatchling. They easily could have picked him up and just carried him away.

They liked these stories, and he liked listening to them. And maybe they were true, after all.

After all, he always stayed close to water. Always liked to write about the creatures he found there. Had wonderful conversations with a Maren, about the ocean. Sometimes just about life. Traded materials for the best fishing spots, or other materials; gems and pearls.

Even when he left home, he never left the sea. His journey took him all around it, from one side of the coast to the next. He circuited around both oceans, took a stop at every shore. In the end this path guided him to Thunder Hollow, a place where he would never be out of eyeshot of the water, and he decided to stay.
