The Lost Hatchling
Part 2
"I've bested you, now leave!"
"Never!"
Omega burst out losing Cheif's grip and knocking him over. He leaped onto him, and they began tussling in the sand.
Something was off, usually Alpha would have stopped them by now...
Cheif noticed it too and the broke apart to scramble over to her perch. They couldn't quite fly so they had to climb to her perch. When they reached the top they were greeted by a sleeping Alpha.
"You know what this means, right?" Omega grinned.
"Oh yeah, let's go exploring! Race you the nearest spire!" Cheif squealed climbing up farther to the top of the diver. Omega was going to have a proper fight, but this was fun too.
"Hey, no fair!"
They raced up the cliff, and when they reached the top, they were in a world larger than anything they could've ever imagined. The world was... big!
"Woah, look!" Omega cried pointing to the lightning farm on the horizon.
"That seems pretty far away, shouldn't we get back before Alpha wakes up?"
Omega stared at his brother. He was probably having a harder time with his thick coat in the full sunlight instead of the sheltered caves and canyon below. Then again, they never backed down!
"What you scared? Bet I could climb to the top of that spire before you."
Cheif still didn't seem so sure, but he began walking in that direction behind Omega anyways.
They spent hours picking their way through the sands, stones, and wires that crossed the open expanse before them. The one they were headed toward wasn't far away, but they had to constantly stop to catch their breath, especially chief with his thick coat.
When they did finally reach it, storm clouds were closing in fast.
Cheif plopped himself down onto the ground.
Omega urged him on.
"Now, we climb."
"No... " he gasped catching his breath "If the storm hits we'd be fried, and we really need to get back Alpha has certainly woken up now."
"Scardey bat!" Omega called over his shoulder as he started climbing. He had come too far, there was no stopping now! It was easy to grab the wires spiraling up the spires, but it was far taller than her thought. Each hold was a struggle, but his fiery determination would not be stopped. One more hold... Aha!
"I did it!" he called down, but as he looked to Cheif he saw only terror, and he realized, was very, very, very high!
A bolt struck the tower behind him and he had a brief terrifying moment before his world grew white.
The white faded to black.
In the black, he saw movement.
Energy.
Bolts of brilliant blue broke the vacant void.
He was reborn.
He heard gentle "No"
A warm feeling.
He must return.
He opened his eyes and he could see the energies pulsing around him. The power in his talons. He could shape it to his will. He looked up to see Alpha's scared face.
"Greetings," he said. Only he didn't. His voice had a deep echo of ancient power, and Alpha shrunk back from his words.
Strangely he wasn't concerned. He was more concerned for the beating atop the Tempest Spire. He could see the energy radiating from that point, and he knew there, was rivaling power. Maybe one day he wold be that strong. One day...
