Who Am I?

I was born in an ancient lair near the Spiral Keep, in the Sea of a Thousand Currents. My parents were both scholars, more concerned with pursuing knowledge and translating prophecies than they were with my siblings and I. Over time I became bitter and angry with the Tidelord. I felt as if he had stolen my parents away from me. When he disappeared, though I was as alarmed as anyone else, I also felt guiltily relieved. Now, perhaps, things would change.

To make a long story short, they didn't. Now my mother and father were entirely preoccupied with leading searches for our missing deity. I was fed up with competing with a god that wasn't even talking to us anymore, and tired of life in the Sea. I wanted adventure. I wanted to do something special, something I could be recognized for.

I left.

At first I wasn't certain where I wanted to go. I heard from a Wind dragon about the Emperor's Wake in the Sunbeam Ruins, and couldn't contain my curiosity. Luckily for me, I never met the monster, for I was astonished to run into another Gaoler, fleeing across my path.

She told me her name was Daisy, and that she had come from the Hewn City; a shadowy, haunted set of ruins. I asked her what she was running from, half hoping it was the Emperor, Luminax, but my hopes were shattered by her next words: "Sundial Imposter, and it's angry!" The roar that punctuated these words was enough to have the both of us taking to our heels.

Daisy said that the creatures of the Hewn City behaved very strangely, and seemed more aggressive somehow. She had gone there searching for answers, and instead found the den of the bear. It was her suspicion that the darkness that grips the Hewn City is none other than the Shade itself, and she had intended to confront it, an idea that seemed very foolish in hindsight.

"After all, that's what the Seekers would have done!" was her justification. When we were safe at last in the Tsunami Flats, Daisy told me of her goal to learn everything there was to know about the Shade, so that we could fight it, as our ancestors had done. Her eyes shone so bright when she said this, that I was enamored, and filled with the desire to join her in this quest. But first, we needed help.

Two young Gaolers with fledgling magic were no match for the Shade, and so we decided to travel to the Southern Icefield and see if we could enlist others to join in our cause. We would be the new Seekers!

Imagine our surprise when we arrived, frozen and hungry, at the Dripcave Dregs, to discover that the Seekers had already been reinstated! Already, there had been others like us who had felt drawn to their homeland, and we were welcomed into their motley clan with open arms.

Whether or not we will be able to join the new Seekers remains to be seen, but in the meantime, Daisy and I have raised three hatchlings, two of which have long since left home, and one who remains. Sebastian, our youngest, is now a member of the Sentry Order.
