Rue

A laugh, a giggle, a joyful shriek,

The fireflies they play with me!

At day they chase me through the woods,

At night they guide me back to home.

Their bright, bright glows light up the air,

A trail of magic back to my lair.

And as I curl up safe and snug in my bed,

The fireflies circle my sleepy head.

Why do they glow so brightly for me,

Why do they follow or lead me the way?

I'll never know why they seem to so love me,

But for now I am glad that they'll always be with me.

Rue is the lil baby in the clan that everyone adores. Even when there's a nest of newborn hatchlings, most of the clan's attention will be focused on Rue tottering around the lair with her wide purple eyes sparkling and her mouth wide in a grin.
She seems to be blissfully unaware of anything bad going on, and has a tendency to wander into danger without realising that anything is wrong. Of course, no one blames her for this, and most of the dragons in the clan just find it makes her even more adorable.
The little Snapper adores Falstaff, and can often be seen following the slightly more sensible imp around the camp. Falstaff in return loves Rue, and the clan is always delighted to see the two hatchlings snuggled together at night, usually in Falstaff's cosy pillow fort.

Rue knew she shouldn't be out past midnight - but how could she resist!? Especially with how the wind sung, the sand blew and the trees creaked! Sure, the Shifting Expanse wasn't the prettiest area to be in - nothing compared to the Gladekeeper's domain - but it still held beauty in its own kind of way. Beauty that made the tiny snapper's eyes swell wide and grin grow wider, a sight so cute it might put someone six feet under. Her feet thumped on the ground as she waddled across the sand, avoiding cacti and trying to ignore the beat of vulture wings above. What did they matter? She had a whole world to explore!

Oh!

Sand poofed under her feet as she quickly made her way over to a cluster of colorful grain - pure white in color and fluffy like a tundra's winter coat. Her mouth opened wiide, beak snapping the plants in half. Such happiness overflowed her from the mere act of eating - her whole lower half started to wiggle. Her smile was almost too wide for her face at this point.
Her smile stayed, even as the firecracker popping sound of Bluelight Chipskinks rang out. Rue was almost painfully oblivious to the angry weasels behind her, even as electricity snapped through the air. The happy snapper was too busy chomping down on her grains, big innocent eyes focused on only one thing - food. The food that most definitely had been claimed by the caravan of Chipskinks, who were making the most adorable of chattering sounds. Were those supposed to be threatening? Apparently so, considering the next moment, the biggest one lunged, magenta eyes full of a desire to take down the chunky dragon.

"Rue! Watch out!" A purple-yellow nocturne yelled, arrow laced with shadow slamming into the ground - inches away from the Chipskink's head. The creature squeaked, tiny ears shooting up before it turned on its hindlegs and ran. The others followed suit.
Dusk lowered to the ground, hovering - lips turned into a frown. He was just out hunting, but it seems he found a misplaced hatchling! The nocturne shook his head, a small smile gracing his maw as he looked at the snapper's cutefully ignorant expression.
"Come on, let's get back. I'll give you some blueberries if you follow seamlessly."
Rue wiggled happily in response, eyes widening with joy. Blueberries! She dropped the grain she was gnawing on, hurriedly ready to trot after Dusk.
