Biography

Co-second-in-command of the Invectors. Responsible for training the grunts and commanding battles. Direct, blunt, abrasive, and not very verbal at the best of times, since she spent most of her childhood on her own and had to learn social skills and language from the various packs she joined temporarily. Easily overwhelmed by large groups; having structure and a script, as she does on the battlefield, helps immensely. Prefers to train people one-on-one; if a large group needs to be trained at once she'll delegate some to a subordinate and handle the rest in her preferred manner. A surprisingly good teacher, despite her rough manner, due to how much she's had to work to understand and communicate with other dragons, and popular among the grunts because of it.
---

She hatched midair, fully grown, in the talons of an eagle. As the shards of her eggshell fell away to the ground below, she fought the eagle until it dropped her, and she glided to the ground, uninjured. She pursued the wounded eagle to its nest, where she ate it and its mate and all its eggs to begin her new life from a position of unquestionable strength.

That's what she tells people, at least.

What she knows is that she hatched and she was alone--no parent, no pack--except for the enormous feathery beast attacking her. She ran and she fought and she ran and she couldn't escape when this animal had command of the air and she had no cover. Defeated, she let her injuries get the better of her, and collapsed. But once the bird drew closer to its weakened prey, she struck out with desperation and seized its wing in her jaws and she won.

And days later, starving, she at last found a hole in the ground full of eggs, and she knew that she would continue surviving. Looking back, she knows that eagles do not nest in holes in the ground or lay so many eggs, but these first obstacles she overcame are inextricably connected in her mind, so that is how she tells the story.

She was alone, but she survived, determined to be that swift hunter in the sky instead of a desperate scavenger on the ground.

Mirrors are not renowned for their aerial prowess. Her initial attempts to imitate that bird of prey resulted in failure and hunger. She was forced to give up and learn to hunt on the ground--for a time. Once she had the fat reserves to support her dream of air superiority, she returned to it, and found she still couldn't do it. She was too big and ungainly, her tail was too long and flexible and created too much drag in the air--she was never going to fly like an eagle for hours on end.

But there are other ways to hunt on the wing. When hunting in a scrubby area of the Wandering Contagion, she saw certain insects lying in wait in the vegetation and ambushing their prey in the air with a short swift swoop. They didn't circle about in the air endlessly before striking. They didn't need to. She didn't need to.

So she developed a hunting strategy wildly unlike the persistence predation typically used by mirror packs. And it worked remarkably well, so long as she had a suitably high perch she could launch from that prey would pass by. It tied her to one location, but that was fine--she was more than capable of defending her territory.

She had found a way to make this dream work for her. At the same time, she had isolated herself even further. She had previously tried to join up with roving mirror packs, and left when the sheer number of dragons overwhelmed her. With her new aerial ambush tactics, she could no longer work with a pack at all--having directed her energy towards flight and exchanged her stamina for the endless patience of an ambush predator, she was utterly unable to keep up with other mirrors on the move.

She didn't regret her dream. She couldn't, not after she'd spent so much time and energy achieving it. She was more alone than ever thanks to her efforts, and she would just have to deal with it. For company she had a tag-along dire vulture who'd decided she was the best source of food around, and the silent fae skulking around her territory who fled whenever he saw her. She could work with that.
