______ Malan's first memory is of being entirely underwater - drowning. He managed to claw his way to the surface, and drag himself to shore to recover. Unfortunately, when he tried to figure out how and why he had been in that situation, he came up with a blank. He couldn't remember anything - not his family, not his clan, not his flight - nothing.

______ It was about a week later when Ignis and Blackthorn found him, eating meat. And then throwing up, because Tundras can't eat meat. Baffled, they asked him what he was doing, and when Malan said he was eating, they wanted to know why he was eating meat when Tundras can't digest it. When Malan snapped to his defense, they learned why, and there was no way they were just going to walk away from a dragon with that degree of memory loss. After the progenitors chewed out the offending pair for literally dragging a dragon to their lair against his will, they offered Malan a place in the clan. Malan accepted - he pretty much had nowhere else to go, and the clan had fellow Tundras who could help him out in regards to how his species functioned.

______ Malan eventually chose his name from a history scroll he'd been reading, and (figuratively) devours any and all scrolls and books about previous ages that he can get his claws on. In fact, that's what he hoards - much to the annoyance of other dragons in the clan who would also like to read those books, please.
