CALLISTO
cursed seer

about.
Most would say Callisto was blessed by the shadowbinder, if you asked him he'd say he was cursed. Cursed to divine the future through tarot readings, his abilities becoming more accurate with each phase of the moon. Callisto is a resident at castle cassius, found and rescued by Flynn himslf; in doing so he serves as a resident fortune teller and the castle's direct connection with the shadow deity.

Callisto spends most of his time in his open-roofed tent, made so that he has access to the moon each night. His powers are dependent on the cycle of the moon; the more it is visible, the more readings he can do within a night. Under the light of a full moon, however, Callisto is able to execute a powerful ritual, revealing a person's fate— and a point at which they can change it with the cost that he can only do it once that night, however, and with sacrifice to his wellbeing. It burns lune out immensely, leaving him diminished.

Despite his servile demeanor in his tent, Callisto is often needly when approached without intention. He keeps his words sparse and often tinged with a light derision. He doesn't dislike dragons so much as he lacks a taste for casual conversation. In spite of this, lune is hesitant to simply leave a conversation, preferring to let them run their course so as not to come off as rude.

Callisto has an aura unsettling to those highly attuned to the magical energies of Sorineth's many mystical creatures and dragons. It has a familiar taste, like the liquorice flavour of the Shadowbinder— but it's much more intense than one would expect. It puts one on edge— and makes some wonder why the host of such powerful magic would use a tarot deck as a tool of focus. With Callisto's power, he should need nothing at all to receive visions and holy messages abound. However, Callisto himself has no desire to access this power— it has only caused him grief and misery...

backstory.
Callisto was born in a small village on the edge of Hewn City, everyone knew each other, it traded very little and exporting less, it was a closed off community. However, they still prospered, acting at exactly the right time to claim riches and rewards. This was due to the prophet Ganymede's efforts— given sight through fate itself by the Shadowbinder, he could tell the people of the town the exact moment when the ground would be most prosperous, or what cave would provide the most ore to sell. When he told the future, ichor dripped from his eyes. As time went on they became more and more dependant on Ganymede's power and when he died, the town grew despondent.

The town did everything to bring him back, it years until Callisto was born, and the whole town wept tears of joy when they saw ichor budding at the corners of his vantablack eyes. Into his adolescence, Callisto trained to become a proper seer— up until tragedy struck. A plague struck the town, killing any infected by it. Callisto tried his best to tell a prophecy, but kept what he found secret up until he was pushed into it by the angry townsfolk. As it turns out, he had foretold they would all die. The townspeople rioted and killed each other, making the prophecy true. Callisto, fearful for his life despite his vaunted status, ran. Even now, Callisto wonders whether that would always happen or if he could have done something to change it— and because of this tragedy, he limits the expression of his power.
