H I S T O R Y There has been debate among our Masters as to why some of our disciples turn out so strange, but ultimately I think we are all a little odd considering our circumstances. Lục Ngạn, though, has experienced little hardship from what I know of. Master Gemspine simply discovered an egg abandoned by the foot of Mount Anzi, and while the situation was indeed unfortunate, in the grand scheme of things Lục Ngạn was still blessed with the utmost care and affection most dragonlings desperately yearned for since birth. As Master Alpencap was busy with his own duties, Master Gemspine spent most of her time taking care of the young dragon. She also taught him her craft with the intention of training him to become a talented alchemist. Lục Ngạn did not have a penchant for alchemy, however, as Master Nhạc later found out with no shortage of disappointment. With the arrival of other disciples and more importantly, the opening of the Archives, the two Sect leaders were simply too overwhelmed to pay the young dragon full attention. So as to retain his interest in cultivation, Master Gemspine assigned him the task of deciphering the philosophies surrounding the very existence of dragonkind in this world. The mission was simple yet daunting, but Lục Ngạn happily agreed to help, and so far he has not strayed from his entrusted commitment. And despite his vigilance, I humbly do not have a clue as to what exactly Lục Ngạn is researching. It is said that his quarter within the Archives is filled with books from various philosophers of this realm, as well as religious scriptures. Books that talk about how the human world came to be, how they must act and cultivate themselves, and how different belief systems dictate one’s lifestyle. I am excited, but also reasonably cautious, to see how these ideas can be applied to our dragon-centric society. For now, though, while I am glad that Lục Ngạn seems to not have given up his childlike zestfulness and his perpetual high spirit, I am somewhat saddened by the thought that underneath his cheerful demeanour, a part of him has discovered that he is no longer his beloved sư nương’s most promising disciple. I will definitely buy him xôi. |
