Tatsu

In many ways, Tatsu contrasts his father. Where his father is more calm and collected, he is boisterous and loud. Where his father likes to think things through to carefully examine risks in his actions, he rarely thinks ahead to what consequences his actions can have. Still, despite what others may consider to be flaws, he is a friend to everyone in the clan. He wants to be like his father, as he is a potential candidate to be the clan leader, and strives to become better and stronger for the clan's sake.

He looks up to his grandparents, revelling in his grandmother's story of glory and triumph in battles that came long before him, and he becomes enthralled in the stories of grandfather's travels to distant lands in the name of cartography and exploration. He also looks up to his uncles and aunt, and always tries to learn more about the world around him. He begs his favourite uncle, Chrysolix, to take him on trips away from the island, which to his credit he does, but when she doesn't Tatsu tries to sneak onto the ships, the key word being "tries" because Chrysolix always finds his hiding spots and makes sure the unsuccessful stowaway doesn't make it far on the ship.

Despite his small size, he is strong. He trains and play-fights with his best friend and cousin Monarch, even though he is a fraction of his size. Merrol, the clan's second in command and Lynch, the clan's local battle trainer, train Tatsu to get stronger, with Lynch teaching him how to use his size to his advantage and how to fight in general, and Merrol teaching him tactics and playful techniques to catch others off-guard. Merrol was easy to convince to train him, taking any opportunity to playfully mess with him as a loving aunt-like figure would, while Lynch had to be begged consistently until she finally lost it at the constant annoyance of being bothered and said she'd teach Tatsu if he finally stopped.

He is defensive of his home, and a bit hot-headed at times, but takes offense to anyone insulting the Island. He inherits his grandmother's fierce anger towards anyone who dares to try and hurt his family and friends, and will fight for them and defend them with everything he has. He is determined in his goal of being the best he can be, and aspires to not only raise himself to greater heights, but everyone around him to. He doesn't want to hog all the glory and good things to himself, but to share the results of his ambitions with others.

He does harbour one secret, his greatest insecurity, his inability to use magic of any kind, his greatest difference between him and his father in his eyes.
