Now, I am not an art critic. If you show me a painting and tell me that the colors are too saturated or whatnot, I’ll just smile and nod, because I really don’t care for the sensibilities of dragons who spend their time staring at paint.

That said, even I can tell that Flaude Beret is not Sornieth’s finest artist. He’s not terrible, but he doesn’t have the skill to paint timeless portraits of the great Forum Council members themselves.

And yet, that is exactly what he was commissioned to do. It all started with Council infighting. Arestor wanted portraits to immortalize them as something important, whereas Renata wanted nothing at all. They comprised by hiring a cheap, unknown artist. That artist was Flaude.

When the paintings were first unveiled, I was curious enough to visit the Forum Archive to see them in person. The paintings were so stunningly mediocre that my strongest memory of the experience is feeling disappointed when I discovered that Flaude didn’t actually wear a beret.
