History

After losing both of his parents to poison at a young age, Mithridates became obsessed with avoiding the same fate. It's not that he fears death in itself - though in some sense he does, not that he would admit it to anyone - but he really doesn't want to die in the same agonizing way that his mother and father did.

It is because of this that he has slowly been ingesting poisons throughout his whole life. His journey took him to all of the Flight territories, where he talked with, or as a last resort fought, all of the poisonous creatures of the land to better understand them and how their venoms work. He had also persuaded some of the beastclans to share their knowledge of herbs and plants with him. The knowledge he has gathered is valuable, so Mithri (as he likes to be known) writes everything down in a small notebook he carries with him. Though he knows all of the information at heart, he also wishes to pass it on to others- plus having it written down gives him concrete reminders.

He's always careful with the dosages that he gives himself, and though he had a few close calls at the beginning of his undertaking, by now he knows every known poison in and out. It is this skill that helps him save other dragons' lives. He always carries with him antidotes for the most common poisons, as well as materials for the rest. Others sometimes refer to him as a healer, but he doesn't like that term. It is not his sole purpose to go around healing others, though he carries great respect for dragons who have devoted their lives to that task. All he desires is the knowledge he needs to protect himself from a painful and terrifying demise.

During his travels all over Sornieth, he has picked up the art of battle along the way. A powerful fighter, he has not hesitated to use his knowledge of poisons to help him in battles with unfavourable odds, though he always made sure that the dosage was merely enough to weaken enemies, not kill them. Some have tried to buy his services as an assassin, but Mithri refuses to take a life in such an underhand way. He first heard the term 'Poisonmaster' used to describe him in Plague territory, and he liked it well enough to adopt it.

Now he has reached the end of his travels since he found Serakem's clan, though his search for knowledge isn't over. It is ready to take a back seat, however, while he focuses on clan life. He has had no mates and no children so far, but he's definitely open to the possibility in the future.

'Inspiration" wrote:
Mithridatism is the practice of protecting oneself against a poison by gradually self-administering non-lethal amounts. The word is derived from Mithridates VI, the King of Pontus, who so feared being poisoned that he regularly ingested small doses, aiming to develop immunity.

Mithridates VI's father, Mithridates V, was assassinated by poisoning, said to be at his mother's orders. After this, Mithridates VI's mother held regency over Pontus until a male heir came of age. Mithridates was in competition with his brother for the throne and his mother began to favor his brother. Supposedly, during his youth, he began to suspect plots against him at his own mother's orders and was aware of her possible connection with his father's death. He then began to notice pains in his stomach during his meals and suspected his mother had ordered small amounts of poison to be added to his food to slowly kill him off. With other assassination attempts, he fled into the wild.

While in the wild, it is said that he began ingesting non-lethal amounts of poisons and mixing many into a universal remedy to make him immune to all known poisons. (From Wikipedia.)
