Beautiful Night
It was quiet in the dark cave, the light of the crescent moon not bright enough to reach into its depths. Slow breathing could be heard in this darkness, giving away that there were creatures slumbering in the beautiful night.
Tharana looked over the sleeping dragons, the Fae, Guardians, Wildclaws, Coatls, Banescales and Imperials. They looked so peaceful in the dim light her sharp eyesight could see in. With a soft slither of scales she uncurled from the corner she had settled in and slipped to the entrance, where, if anyone had been watching, she was gloriously silhouetted against the quarter moon in all her Fae splendour. She gently crossed the stony ground as if she were a phantom, making hardly a sound in the silent night. She loved times like this, the calmness, the peace.
She made her way to a ledge overlooking a plateau of bare ground with trees scattered across it. The silver light filtering through the atmosphere shone down on her and the landscape, painting her white and green scales with mercury. It was so very beautiful, this midnight land.
She could hear the sleepy grunts of the dragons back in the cave, and she smiled to herself. She had never been good with others until she had arrived here, to look after dragons who were in hibernation.
She had been out, flying low over trees, when she had spotted another dragon. The Guardian's white and yellow colours had shone brightly in the sunlight, stark against the deep green leaves of the trees below him. She had swerved away and flown high into the clear sky, letting the sun hide her in its light. The new dragon hadn't seen her, or if he had them he hadn't shown it. He glided slowly over the forest as if he was enjoying his flight, while Tharana soured high above. She couldn't help but admire the patterns on his wings; they looked like eyes, reminding her of butterflies she had seen flitting around in meadows.
Without quite realising she had done so, she followed him. She was curious about this dragon. He seemed like a leader, she could tell from the way he flew so confidently, knowing exactly where he was going. She hadn't seen any dragon like him around here before. Most were shy like her, hiding away in the forest and avoiding contact, only occasionally coming out into the open air.
She had followed him to here, the caves by the plateau. By then it had been too late to turn back, and her wings ached too much to fly any further. Evidently he had noticed her, this strange dragon, for he came over almost as soon as she had landed and asked her if he could help her. From that day on she had stayed there. Soon, she had discovered that she liked to help, to watch, to care. She had found something she loved.
A rustle in a nearby bush untangled Tharana from her thoughts. She looked towards it with her gold, starred eyes, already knowing what it would be. She didn't come out from her post in the cave just to see the view. She had another reason for the short night time jaunts.
From the mass of twigs and leaves came a golden foot, so clean it was as if it was made of dawn light itself. A gold leg appeared, followed be an orange-gold head and body. A horn protruded from the deerlike creature's forehead, proclaiming it to be a unicorn. Tharana knew this wetland unicorn. It had been visiting her every night for the past month. She hadn't decided what to name it yet, she didn't know if she would ever come up with a name for something such as it, but she felt like she had a friend in this creature.
As the moon tracked across the sky, she sat on the ledge with the deer unicorn under her wing. The sleeping dragons in the cave hmphed in their sleep, but did not wake. She knew they were safe, and she wasn't far away from them.
And the night was beautiful.

Our clans Lady Tharana
Had only one Clutch with our Lord, before she found their relationship to be one of comfort and not Love. For she could not hold Malvainian’s heart, over that of the dragoness that was willing to risk her very life and death for the Lord she so Admired. Our Lady Tharana relinquished her Claim of being Lord Malvainian’s Mate to that Dragoness, who now stands forever by our Lords Side. Our Lady Annabelinda. Yet our Lady Tharana stayed with our clan as is still to this day a close Comrade of our Lord, and serves the Clan as the Keeper of the Weh Caves. Watching over our Clan Members in their Hibernation Dens, and managing their care and safety. There is No other Dragon I would trust more than she.
