A bedrock of her clan, Simi’s passion and rage against the unfairness unleashed upon her clan is sometimes the only thing that keeps the clan – the followers of the Flame of the Earthen Light – going. She tends to the hearth in the centre of the camp, where dragons come to warm their paws and tell stories of the better days.

A part of the younger generation, Simi’s role as the hearthkeeper and keeper of the faith was only a natural progression, as her aging mother watched as her young daughter tended to her as a mere hatchling, while her father, a heartless dragon, shunned his family and mated again with a young dragon. Recommending her to the high priests was an easy choice for the wise, but frail, dragon.

Nowadays, Simi spends her time with her familiar Nightmare, who, antithetically to his name, keeps the nightmares of her cruel father at bay, as long as he remains curled up next to her. When she’s not next to the fire – which is vanishingly little time these days, as the clan grows more embattled – she enjoys cooking, mysteriously enough to some, but obvious to those who know her, as they know her great love of fire, with its power to renew and destroy.
