Biography
Auberon is an advisor on foreign affairs in the court of Queen Setae.
Formerly a diplomat positioned overseas, he has been promoted to a higher position at home, with another younger envoy taking his place abroad. He had been established there for many years, and had married a much younger wife from the local population, Malvacea. It had been his intention to have children with her, but this never came to take place, and as is customary, he had taken on financial responsibility for Malvacea's siblings, giving him a large household one way or another. This is a practise common to many families in Malvacea's country, and usually just restricted to noble families within his homeland; however, now he has a job that permanently places him at court, and it was unquestionable that Malvacea leave them behind, he continues to support them here. Inherently generous, or very invested in being seen as generous, he accepts this, but keeps an eye out for future prospects for them. He is fond of Malvacea's youngest sister, Mallow, who he does see as something like a daughter.
He is now an advisor on foreign affairs for Queen Setae, specialising of course in the country he lived and served in for nearly twenty years. He is over all a conciliatory, peace-making presence in diplomatic discussions - often butting heads with the military advisor General Sarcosuch. There's no lasting animosity between the two, however. If Sarcosuch really ever pushed an issue, Auberon would likely capitulate, as he is a little afraid of him. It's unclear whether Sarcosuch knows this, however.
The are things he misses about being abroad and things he appreciates about being here. His fortunes stretched much farther abroad than they do here, even with his advanced position, but while there he became accustomed to being able to flaunt his wealth and afford lavish spectacles, a lifestyle that he attempts to keep up now. Of course, a palace has a great many more opportunities for extravagant parties, new fashions, expensive gifts and so on, so he may get himself into financial trouble one of these days.
