Rustle. Scrape. Rustle. Scrape.
Willow hissed, startled awake by the sound of something moving awfully close to her den. "Who's there? I'll fight you! I'm not afraid!" She peered outside the small cave, hoping- or maybe not hoping- that she'd see someone, something, at least just with her heat vision. It’s not tonight, is it?
Rustle. Rustle.
There! A dragon dark as night stepped out of the bushes, staring at the vines that hid Willow's cave. He had a curious look in his eyes, and he was covered in small cuts and scrapes. Leaves and twigs clung to his scales, dirt caked under his claws. "Hello, strange disembodied voice. Come on out, I won't hurt you."
Should I trust him? Willow thought hesitantly. What if he's lying? But her instincts told her this dragon needed help. Her brain told her this was the dragon she’d been seeing in her visions. She slowly and cautiously crept out of the cave, shaking her pale wings out. She stared at the black dragon, trying to look like she wasn't deathly afraid he was some kind of murderous psycho. After all, that's how the last dragon she interacted with turned out to be. Or… would interact with? She couldn’t remember if it happened or not. "Need some help?" Willow asked, before her mind could go down that path again. She did NOT want to have a total meltdown in front of a complete stranger. The stranger grinned. "Yeah, that'd be appreciated. I'm considering making my own clan, and, err... I kinda need some help with all the thorn bushes." Willow laughed. "Sure seems like it. You know you aren't supposed to dive INTO the bush, right?" He looked even more embarrassed at this. "My name's Willow, by the way. What's yours?" she asked. I hope I didn't mess that up. The stranger looked up. "Oh, me. My name is Nightshade."

It was a few weeks later that Willow lay curled around her nest, staring lovingly at the eggs inside. They're safe, she thought, Safe from this horrible curse. What were the chances they would inherit her power? Willow's were already weak enough. Maybe they'd be able to see as far as what tomorrow's breakfast would be. That'd be alright. She closed her eyes, letting her power flow through her thoughts and reach out into the future, something she rarely did. She could see that the eggs would hatch in- in just a few minutes. Willow opened her eyes and looked down just in time to see one of the eggs twitch, then crack along one side. The other followed suit, the hatchling inside pushing through with such ferocity and determination that Willow was afraid it'd come launching out of the egg and knock the whole nest over. Willow looked up to see Nightshade emerging from the shadows, heading towards her. "Is it tonight?" he asked, eyes shining. "It is," Willow replied, voice rising with excitement. The ferocious hatchling knocked on its eggshell again, and a whole side of it shattered. "It's a girl!" Willow breathed, filled with joy and wonder. The hatchling shook off her eggshell and opened her bright eyes. Her blue scales shone in the moonlight, and she spread her pale wings. "She's Aqua for sure," Nightshade said, watching the hatchling with pride. Willow nodded, unable to take her eyes off Aqua's. The way she was staring at Willow... Like she saw not only her, but the forest beyond. Like she knew her so well, and was deciding right then whether or not to trust her based on everything Willow had done. And ever will do, a part of her brain whispered, but she ignored it. Maybe she was just smart. Or maybe that's just how hatchlings act. Willow and Nightshade were the first in the clan to hatch their eggs, after all.
The other egg rocked again, but unlike Aqua, the hatchling inside was in no hurry to get out. Aqua turned towards her unhatched sibling and began tapping on the shell. "How in the world...?" Willow tilted her head. How would a hatchling know how to do that? Pure instinct? And why did Aqua seem to be pushing in very specific areas? Nightshade looked up and met Willow's eyes. A vision rose in the back of Willow's mind, and she pushed it down. No. There was no way.
And yet, the way Aqua was pushing on that egg... Newly-hatched dragons shouldn't be able to know that an egg needs help. They shouldn't know where and how to push, and at what times.
And they certainly shouldn't have that expression on Aqua's face, the expression of I've-done-this-a-thousand-times.
Willow felt her heart stop beating for a minute. She had to remember to breathe, even as everything came crashing down.
Her hatchlings weren't safe, after all. She could barely focus on her other daughter's hatching as the realization slammed down on her.
Aqua was a seer, just like Willow.

____Willow didn't understand what was happening to her. She had no control over what she did, a horrible voice screeching in her ears when she tried to resist. The only thing she could do as Nightshade commanded her to do things was fill her gaze with as much hatred as she could. How could he do such a thing? Her visions... they hadn't warned her about this. Maybe Aqua's had, and she and Violet fled together. But why not save Willow? She did it for a reason, Willow reassured herself as she- no, he, with her body- held her head high and strutted confidently into the main gathering area.
Her first impression- was it hers?- was that Aqua had warned some of her clanmates. Wysteria was pretending to sleep, her extra eyes open and watching the clearing suspiciously. Bob was perched on a tree, staring at Willow, head fans twitching. It was an expression Willow had never seen before on him.
Whatever happens next, I hope those two can fix it.
She watched as her body walked up to the entrance tunnel and sat down next to it, completely still and sitting like a guard. This doesn't look good.
A moment later, Nightshade pushed through the tall grass. There was something about his expression that scared her. He stopped underneath Bob, glaring up at him. A vision pressed in Willow's mind, two timelines fading in and out as he made a choice. Wysteria was watching. Bob's fans displayed that unfamiliar expression, something she guessed was fear.
One timeline flickered out.
The other became blindingly clear, searing pain shooting through her skull. She couldn't cry out, couldn't fall. Her body was perfectly still.
Nightshade leaped up, grabbing Bob's tail in his jaws and throwing the Fae to the ground. In an instant, Wysteria was on him, roaring in anger. She threw Nightshade off of Bob, who flew off into the trees, calling to the rest of the clan. Most of them didn't believe him, but a few were sensible enough to get up and fly away. Nightshade was turned away from them, so they'd have the chance to escape.
Or so she thought, because apparently Nightshade could see through Willow's eyes now. Phanaltra crashed to the ground, a sickening crack echoing through the clan. Blue screeched as Willow- wasn't she just on the ground?- tore through his wing with her claws. What is going on here?

____She couldn't understand how she suddenly became so violent. It wasn't like her. Because it isn't me, she thought. Willow's head snapped around and her mouth hissed at Panther, who charged at her. In what universe are Pearlcatchers cowards? Willow wondered, noticing the glint of fear concealed by rage and determination in her eyes. Willow's body lifted into the air and landed on Panther's back, swiftly shoving one of the birdskull helmets on her head. When did I get that? She was fading in and out of consciousness, sometimes aware of what she was doing, other times blacking out and waking up somewhere completely different. All she knew for sure was she wanted this to be over already. She wanted heroic dragons to come bursting through the trees to save them. She wanted the Shadowbinder to come take Nightshade far, far away, where he could never hurt anyone again.
Her vision faded again, ears ringing.
She didn't have much time.
Taking a deep breath (mentally, of course), she pushed as hard as she could with her claws, letting out an earsplitting shriek.

____When Willow came to, she didn't know what was going on. She was lying down in a thorny bush, unable to move. Suddenly, her head turned to look at what was left of the clan.
Pools of dragon blood were everywhere, scarred earth and crushed plants telling the story of the fight that split the clan. Or... did it? It certainly seemed empty here. They either left, or they're all dead.

____Suddenly, she rose to her feet much too fast, her ribs aching in protest, scales screaming from several small cuts. Her legs moved, and suddenly she was in front of Nightshade's den. The murderous mirror was sitting in front of the entrance. "Hello, Willow. Come, sit down." She didn't want to, but she had no choice. Nightshade was looking through the destroyed grass barrier out into the scarred remnants of their home. "They got away. Everyone I've captured is out searching for those who fled." He narrowed his eyes. "But we'll get them all one day, Willow. Everyone will love us then. One day, who knows; maybe the whole Tangled Wood will be ours. One day, all of Sornieth could be ours!" He laughed then, not a laugh of nervousness or amusement, but the laugh of someone who had gone insane.
