Mara

Mara didn't have an easy start in life. Her parents, two Seeker Gaolers who traveled the world for anything that needs to be brought back to the Fortress of Ends, one day found themselves having a clutch of eggs while they traveled through the Wispwillow Grove of the Tangled Woods. While they hadn't intended to have a family yet, they were delighted to have children of their own. Even if the children ended up with the eyes of the Shadow Flight.

But they did a terrible discovery once Mara hatched. Liquid shadows poured slowly but endlessly from her eyes. Neither parent had seen anything like this and immediately thought that the Shade had infected this hatchling. Their duty would force them to take their child to the Fortress of Ends.. which would mean that she will be locked away forever. This realization was too painful. It would be more merciful.. to end the hatchling's life.

In the end, none of them could bring themselves to kill their own child. They decided to let the world itself take care of the issue. While her father was looking after her siblings, her mother led her out of the lighted up parts of the Wispwillow Grove and deep into the dark forest beyond. Her mother told her to stay there and wait for her return. Mara watched as her mother disappeared into the darkness and waited. And waited. And waited. She never saw her mother again.

Eventually she couldn't wait anymore. She was cold, hungry and terrified. Where was her mother? Her family? She tried to find her way back.
