Uh-oh, looks like this annelida enthusiast wandered a little too far from their home lair (452562, Hyzenthlaay), and now they’re off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt them, we'd really appreciate it if you instead could just return them to their original home via the Crossroads, send them off in the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread (warning, you will get another traveler in return if you do this), or if you don’t want another traveler in return, this rest hub. You can also adopt them permanently if you don’t want them leaving your lair - just contact Hyzenthlaay and let her know (it’s good for her notes)!

Many people have worked very hard on this traveling dragon, and exalting them would be an absolute shame. Please don’t do it!

Hookworm was scarcely raised under normal circumstances, having an absolutely social inept ghost-hunter for a mother and a father better suited for necromancy than child-rearing. Still, this unusual set-up has its benefits - when she began to show a deep, unmoving interest in worms and worms alone as a child, her parents readily welcomed the fixation. Beyond that, they even showed support, with her father regularly bringing in worms from recent rainfalls inside of their shared den for her to inspect (and, if he was not careful with his claws in the process, dissect).

There's scarcely a fact that Hookworm doesn't know about the worms of Sornieth (worms being a very loose categorization for a large species of animals - but that's a discussion best left to her), but that doesn't stop her from taking to traveling the continents to learn more. She is an expert in her highly specific field of fauna and has published several papers on the topic. This knowledge has transferred to some other groups of insects as well, but worms remain her passion.

The Tangled Wood seemed like an excellent place to find all sorts of interesting worms. Maybe they were goopy, or glowy. Maybe there were worms here that no dragon had ever seen before!
Hookworm wandered through the dark forest, stepping carefully over thorny roots and spiny branches. Fungi clung to the trees and cast an eerie yet beautiful glow on the shadowy forest floor. Taking a closer look at a particularly beautiful cluster of mushrooms, she noticed something inching along, nibbling at the mushroom's edges. Hookworm leaned in even closer, excited. The little creature was rather large, coiled twice around the stalk of the mushroom. To her dismay, it was not a worm, instead it was some type of caterpillar. It glowed softly inside, probably from the mushroom it was eating. Still interesting, Hookworm thought, turning away from the tree and continuing her walk through the forest.
Soon, she found a large clearing surrounded by beautiful, fungus-covered trees. The ground was recently disturbed, meaning that there were probably several confused worms there. It also meant there were dragons nearby who were digging around for something. She cautiously entered the clearing, sinking up to her knees in some places in soft dirt. As she climbed around, she came to a smaller area, with a path that lead somewhere else in the woods. A small orange Fae was fluttering around, wearing a tiny white crown and a cape that was much too big. His fans were waving very quickly, and the dragons below him looked rather annoyed. Still, it seemed like they were following his orders. If they're that irritated, can't they just ignore him? There was something about the Fae that seemed like he wasn't actually in charge, just acting like it. A pale pink Banescale with blue eyes running down her sides looked the most irritated and kept snapping at the Fae. Hookworm crept up nervously, not wanting to disturb the obviously-busy dragons. But surely, with this much disturbance, there were worms wriggling around, confused as to why their home was suddenly up on the surface. That was enough to get her to walk up to them. The Banescale, who was much larger than the Fae, was arguing and growling, and the Fae somehow managed to sound annoyed, even with a monotonous tone. Then, the small orange dragon saw Hookworm, and she immediately wanted to go hide in the nearest bush. He wasn't very frightening on his own, even with the crown of bones and the red eyes. It was the look he gave Hookworm that terrified her.
"Hello there," he said, "I don't think I've seen you around before. My name is Bob. I run things around here." So he is the leader, Hookworm thought, Or just in charge of digging. Who knows. The Banescale, who had been watching Bob with some of the eyes on her tail, turned around with a snarl. "He thinks he runs things, but he doesn't. And he never will. Especially after breaking our real leader's tail." She lunged up and snapped at Bob, barely missing his tail. Bob let out a yelp and turned around to probably use magic on the Banescale. He stopped himself after realizing Hookworm was still there. The Banescale turned to Hookworm, too, and put a friendly smile on her face. "Hello! I'm Wysteria. Come, let me take you to our finished lair; you're welcome to stay for as long as you'd like. What's your name?" She had some of her eyes watching Bob at all times, as well as the dragons still working. "Hookworm. I... I really like worms. Like, a lot. Do you have any worms?" Wysteria smiled. "I'm sure we do. Come, let's go to the lair."

The clan's leader was named Nightshade, and his tail was indeed broken. He seemed agitated, probably because it's not every day you get your tail broken by a tiny angry dragon, but he was still kind to Hookworm.
The Tangled Wood did indeed have plenty of interesting worms, as she discovered, including one that looked just like the thorny roots that sprawled across the ground. It was a fun adventure, but eventually Hookworm knew she would have to leave.

Hookworm arrived in the Scarred Wasteland next. While she wasn't quite sure how to feel about visiting her first ever Plague clan, she had a few ideas as to what it'd be like. She knew Plague territory likely had lots of maggots, which are similar to worms (as well as a few parasitic worms as well, likely) - and the particular clan she'd arrived in was called Crow Callers. She knew crows were a type of bird, and a lot of birds ate worms, too. To her delight, there were plenty of opportunities to discover worms and other creepy-crawlies in the Plague lands. As she headed off to her next location, she hoped for something even better!

@Hyzenthlaay here! This dragon is officially a part of the "Around the World in 365 Dergs" challenge. Check out the thread for information and more travelers like this! ...or just read the following:
  • The general idea is that I am going to create 365 unique traveling dragons, send them off into the world, and see what happens. I'm also going to complete mini-challenges along the way using travelers. If that interests you, consider checking the challenge thread out!
  • I don't want to overflood the system with just my dragons, so adopting travelers from me to live in your lair is totally fine! In fact, I'm betting on it. Just let me know.
  • Always feel free to tell me when you have this dragon in your lair! I love hearing updates.
