Memory Log 0:
The cries echo through our minds. We feel carapaces torn apart. We block out the sensation, but can't stop hearing the snapping and cracking.
We need to molt.
Soon.
We feel safety... Safety around us as the Others quiet down. Safety prods us and we push back an unfamiliar sound filters through our cases. We are prodded again so we physically push against the cramped case. One of us pushes a soft head out first and we hear Safety hiss, and again when the other is free.
"Our only hope... and what comes out?" They speak softly, it's unfamilar. Safety coughs weakly, wetly.
We try to ask what is going on. Why they are there and not The.
"You would know. You should know.... but they killed us all." A wetter cough and an odd expression from the pinned Safety. "Now it's all left to..." their head is drooping, losing strength swiftly, "abomi.... nation...s..."
They are still.
The world is still.
We must move. Our shells must harden. It is not safe.

Memory Log 1:
After we were fully hardened in our young adult forms, we had to flee. The Others were becoming more and more active, we felt a WRONGness get close.
Further and further into the brambles we went.
We did not have time to learn.
We felt a Drone. She was ours instantly. We didn't mean to, but we did need a Drone and she was there.
She cares for us oddly.
Soon after, we found a Hijacker, a gift thrown away for it's imperfections.
We didn't know these labels until we found one of our originator hive's Databanks still alive. Somehow.
It patched itself up, it was still young enough to survive and here it is now. It was our third.

Memory Log 5:
Our first assimilation was unexpected.
It was young. Even still, we struggled to catch it. Hunter had enough assimilation fluid thankfully, but we were not entirely sure what must be done. We later found that it outgrew the shell too fast. That is why it looks mostly like a normal dragon. It is not negatively affected, thankfully. It seems to have gained shimmery wings and spines along it from the assimilation.

If we want to assimilate adult dragons, we need a bigger drone.

Memory Log 8:
We got an Assimilator from another Hive.
Our new Assimilator is big, just as we needed. It has odd-colored assimilation fluid too, but it seems to be working mostly well. It can leave odd bright blue residue though which eventually hardens like building fluid. It also glows, so we are having her place any scraps deep in the hive. So it's not visible from the outside. Hunter seems to like how it looks in the water and it does intensify the light, so we have a few pools lined with it.

Memory Log 10:
Good thing we had those bright pools. Our newly assimilated drones retained most of their coloring and blend in with the pools. We set them to guard the inside of our Hive after a couple incidents. Mostly that involves them staying in the pools or near the next level descents.

Memory Log 22:
Hunter was out hunting in the Ice.
She found a stray and brought it back. Its code is very odd and it stands out a lot.
We decided to study it. Maybe it will prove useful, similar to the siblings?

Memory Log 23:
Trick Trap Trip has proven useful enough to keep. Their flowers are more than they seem.

Memory Log 28:
Trip wanted to go outside, so we sent her and VreeSar. We are watching through VreeSar in case a viable victim comes close enough.

A drone crashed in front of Trip and VreeSar today. Rather, a false drone. They were frantic. They were asking if there are odd black things following them. We made VreeSar respond confusedly and then reassuringly when the pale soon-to-be-Drone mentioned more details. They didn't notice the blank eyes.
We instructed Trip to comfort them. To soothe them. We needed to calm our... new friend after all.
Trip did so. By the time the False Drone was worried, they couldn't move. We sent Assimilator and she and VreeSar managed to get the soft-carapaced drone home. They were swiftly fed more assimilation fluid. It took rather quickly. We did have to have our first Hijacker help us though, as the drone was struggling to keep their mind. We eventually managed to break it enough and warp what's left enough that they follow our control. After they left their second shell however, they displayed the Hijacker characteristics. Which explains the occasional flash of irritation we receive from them. Their shell has hardened and they do bend to our will though. We just can not leave their mind alone while they are around other drones. They have already lashed out at one of the Sentinel siblings.

Memory log ??:
We finally gathered enough data on how dragons interact that we've sent VreeSar to the town by the water. We hope to use him to observe the dragons there and gather more data on how to better act like a dragon.

He swiftly drew attention and introduced himself as a traveler. With a direct comparison like this, we can clearly see where our code and skill fall short. This will be a profitable venture.

Memory log ??:
Recently, we've noticed a dragon sticking near him and overheard others talking of courting. We finally figured out that this is why that pearlcatcher has been acting oddly.

Memory log ??:
We no longer wish to seek out and assimilate dragons. That endeavor likely will end poorly and draw attention. It is good for rapid expansion though and we do still need that. But we will be more selective now and reduce the frequency as time passes.

Notes from Field Researcher Aerfen:

This Drone has been unseen the entire time. We only know it exists because of a few messages I picked up across the wavelength. Appears to also be a Databank class Drone, which explains why it has not been seen.

Addendum: The Hive has noticed that I am keeping track of them.
