★★★ QUICK LOOKHerbalist He/Him | Gay | No Mate Chrysanthemum - or simply Chrys, as he's often referred to - is a quiet and respectable dragon. He is reserved, and is rarely seen outside his straw den, where he creates salves and potions out of the herbs from his garden. He is a healer; his main role within the clan is to tend to the wounded with a combination of medicinal herbs and a little bit of magic. He is cold and professional during these undertakings. No one has ever witnessed him even crack a smile. He is a solitary dragon - a true lone wolf who seems only to associate with the clan out of convenience more than anything else. He can be spotted up early in the morning, tending to the flowers that populate the exterior of the crater, or sneaking a bite or two of fresh kill from the hoard. He refuses to eat the vegetation gathered from the foragers, though he's never told anyone why. Some think it's because he cares more about plants than his fellow dragon. In reality, it's because he absolutely cannot stand Belial, the head forager. He refuses to eat it out of some bizarre principle he's assigned to himself, unknown to the rest of the clan. There are many secrets Chrys keeps, in fact. But the one he will ensure that no one knows until his grave (and hopefully not after, either) is that he has a crush on that infuriatingly cheery undertaker from across the crater...

★★★ PERSONALITY Chrys is, again, a very quiet dragon. However, contrary to the common belief that this is solely because of a perceived sense of superiority over others, this is primarily because Chrys is extremely awkward around others. That's an understatement - he genuinely has no idea how to connect with other dragons. He's extremely anxious, which has pointed him towards his path in life as an herbalist. In his garden, no one comes to bother him. In the early morning, when the sun begins to rise over the peaks of the Crystalspines, and he can feel its warmth against his wings as his familiar suns herself on the flowers - that is when he feels the most comfortable. But others struggle to understand this. In a clan filled with so many different types of dragons, it's difficult to sit down with another and have a conversation about such things. Many are quick to assume that Chrys is simply standoffish and cold, and after a while, he realized such a reputation did wonders for getting others to leave him alone. So he does little to correct others when he hears them talk about him - and he hears a lot, being such a quiet and unassuming creature. One of the only dragons he feels understands him is the amiable tea brewer Mentha, someone who has become a sort of business partner of his. Chrys breeds whatever flowers and herbs the Guardian requests, and in return Mentha gives him new, exotic plants brought in from beyond the realm. They don't speak much, but Chrys is always happy to join Mentha for an early morning cup of tea. |

★★★ HISTORY Compared to some of the more fantastical stories from the other dragons in Hale-Bopp, Chrys's is rather benign; he was a young dragon already present in the Arcane region and left to find himself once he came of age and realized his home clan's lifestyle wasn't for him. He'd come across Hale-Bopp shortly before crossing the border towards the realm of the Earthshaker, but didn't make his presence known until the next day. He'd spent the night quietly observing the inner machinations of the clan from a distance - its border patrols and hunter-gatherer groups and bustling nests full of wide-eyed youngsters. Hale-Bopp was and still is a small clan, and this fact was highly attractive to the reclusive Imperial. When the sun rose he knocked on the proverbial door of the clan matriarch and asked if they needed his services as a healer, and was, of course, accepted with open wings. Chrys decided to make his home on the edge of the Crater, in a spot where the meteor had deposited much of its mysterious magic into the soft earth on the outside. The ground there was incredibly fertile for cultivation, and now he boasts a large and beautiful herb garden. The magic latent in the ground can cause interesting effects on the salves and tonics he creates from the plants that grow within - some beneficial, some neutral, and some outright harmful. Within his den Chrys studies these effects, inside a straw-lined hut covered wall-to-wall in drying plants and thick, dusty notebooks, filled with claw-drawn illustrations and notes of his findings. |

★★★ FAMILIAR Chrysanthemum's familiar is a Leafy Moth named Elysia. Chrys found her when she was just an egg stuck to the underside of a raspberry bush. Curious about the egg left on his dear plant, he took it into his den and watched it dutifully until it hatched into a writhing green worm. At first Chrys thought he might just eat the pitiful thing, but decided to keep it in a safe place to watch it develop out of curiosity. By the time Elysia had poked her tiny head out of her cocoon, Chrys had grown too fond of her - and was additionally fascinated by the photosynthetic properties of her wings. Now, she is his constant companion, and is kept placated by a healthy supply of honey and raspberries. |
